Clarify. Is the NCAA effectively "blackballing" Bruce Pearl?

It looks like the penalty is to prevent him from getting another NCAA coaching job for 3 years. The term “show cause” seems to lack description.

I’d appreciate it if some NCAA rules wonks would explain the implications of the penalty.

Wikipediahas a fairly good description, as well as other examples of coaches who have been hit with show cause penalties. Short answer: yes, he’s effectively been banned from coaching at the college level.

I’m having a hard time finding information on the history of the penalty, but it was my impression (although I could easily be wrong) that the intention was to prevent another Jerry Tarkanian, where all three of his NCAA teams were hit with major rules violations.

Calipari is 2 for 2 so far.

Justified. The man leaves a stink-wake wherever he surfaces.

p.s. Apparently he is now putting his degree in Marketing to good use at a vegetable wholesaler.

Watch out for the E. Coli or Salmonella or whatever to suddenly appear.
