Don’t you know Johnny is a shooting star?
Hotel California. Fucking creepy song and way overplayed.
Stairway to Heaven. Annoying and way overplayed.
“Freebird.”
The only justification of the simple existence of Bachman-Turner Overdrive is to represent the glorious nadir of commercial radio in the Harry Enfield sketches featuring Smashy and Nicey.
Overplayed? Yeah. Mediocre? No. I don’t want to hear anyone else cover it, mainly because B.T.O.'s recording is the most perfect there is and can’t be improved on. I was in high school when B.T.O. broke on the airwaves. They were and still are one of my favorite bands. I owned several of their albums, including B.T.O. II, Not Fragile, and Four-Wheel Drive. I also own the two Brave Belt albums, which were the transition group from the Guess Who to B.T.O. and featured Chad Allen and Randy Bachman. After nearly 35 years, I’ll still sing along when TCB comes on the radio.
I used to think that, until I heard the Gipsy Kings’ version.
“Blue Monday”
“Wild Horses”
Here’s a link to the whole song:
Note this:
These things are highly open to interpretation, but quite simply the other guy wasn’t there, or this line makes no sense.
Sorry, typo in original. Obviously that should read: “Huh hey Joe, i heard you shot your mamma down”
For those desiring an exhaustive list of bands and soloists who have recorded “Hey Joe”, Wikipedia is your friend.
It’s far worse than I’d thought.
Though it might be worth hearing the Mothers of Invention’s version.
Hey Princhester - the song still sucks.
Believe it or not, I like what he did. It would have never occurred to me that Werewolves could be seamlessly integrated with Sweet Home Alabama.
(In the interest of full disclosure, Werewolves is my favorite song ever, and Sweet Home Alabama is on the very short list of songs that I never ever get tired of.)
My one beef with the song is that he rhymes “things” with “things.”
And we were trying different things
We were smoking funny things
I mean, I don’t expect great lyrics from Kid Rock, but come on!
