Classic Rock radio playlist

Here’s the proposition. Every classic rock radio station is required by law to play the same 50 songs. The function of this thread is to name them. Only one entry per person, so be selective. Also, please feel free to argue why previous nominations should not be included.

My contribution:

Magic Carpet Ride - Steppenwolf

Please see the companion “Golden Oldies radio playlist” thread.

“Hey, Jude.” The Beatles.

[bitchy]Doesn’t this make classic rock radio just like top 40?[/bitchy]

Wait, wait! Are we supposed to name the songs we’d WANT them to have to include? Or the ones we’re heartily sick of but just KNOW are going to be included?

If the latter, I’ll stick with “Hey, Jude.”

If the former, I wanna pick again!

The function of this thread may be to name them, but the function of this post is to move the topic to IHMO.

And I wanna hear Tuesday Afternoon by the Moody Blues.

Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd.

In fact I’d say there’s about a 60% chance of hearing that song right now if you turn on the radio.

My choice is to name the ones you actually hear. You know, the one song per band the damn programmers refuse to go beyond. Well, maybe the Beatles and the Stones might get 2 a piece. (My buddy and I have goofed around with these lists for the local classical stations and XRT as well.)

But what the heck, why not include your wannabes as well. Which could make this a kind of “Greatest classic rock hits of all time.” (Available on K-tel records!) Or maybe, the other cut off the album the programmers never let you hear.

I’ll have to think a moment on my suggestions for those categories.

Sorry UncleBeer. You might wanna hear it, but here at Classic Rock WSD we’re gonna give you all of the Moody Blues’ greatest hits, as long as they are all “Knights in White Satin” over, and over, …

Take it Easy–Eagles

Thank you! I’ll take “King Harvest (Will Surely Come)” from The Band’s brown album. That sucker NEVER gets any radio play.

Hmmm…

“Satisfaction”

“Open Arms”

“Sister Christian”

“Frankenstein”

“Statesboro Blues”

anything by Rush

and remarkably, the Police get played on our local classic rock station. This can only mean that I’m gulp old.

“The Wall”-Pink Floyd

Yeah, but when listing your wannabe you hafta name the song we are gonna knock off our play list. Meanwhile, give another listen to “Up on Cripple Creek.”

“Up on Cripple Creek” ? Does that get more airplay than “The Night They Drove Ol’ Dixie Down” ?

Whichever. I’d be glad to wave bye bye to them both.

Baba O’Reilly.

John Couger MellenHEAD… Pink Houses

Pink Floyd…anything by them

Extreme…More Than Words

Doobie Bro’s…Black Water

Actually, Ike, I had to flip a coin to pick between those 2. My fave is The Weight, but fortunately that gets some amount of airplay.

BTW - what part of “one entry per person” do these folk not understand?

Sorry, Nippleman, but The Extreme “More than Words” is RIGHT OUT, cause I’ve never heard of it. (How’s that for an unquestionable standard?!) Maybe if you would hum a few bars…

And I can’t comment on anything by Melonhead or the Beagles, cause I can’t tell one of their songs from another. Actually, I thought all of their songs were called the same thing, namel, “Change the damn station RIGHT NOW!”

Babo O’Reilly" - good choice. Sure it isn’t “Won’t get Fooled Again” tho? That scream really plays well with our
testosterone fueled target demographic.

The Wall? You gotta be kidding. We bring you all of Pink Floyd’s greatest hits, as long as they are “Money.”

Ooh-ooh!! My pick’s got to be Grateful Dead’s Casey Jones. “Ridin’ that train…” bleecchh…

Derick and the Dominoes, Laylia

Hello?! Anyone hear of a song called “Stairway to Heaven?”
