I vote for “Hey Joe” --Jimi Hendrix
If I never hear that song again it will be WAY too soon.

That rule sucked…so I ignored it.
I’m sure you know the tune…it starts off with a little thunder and rain…and then the dirge begins.
A co-worker was offering suggestions over my shoulder. When he saw my “Extreme” entry, he gave me a hard time about it too. We played the shite out of it at a station I worked at in 90-91.
la la la…More than words…la la la
Did that help? No? do do do de do la do da…thats the stuff
Ah, Jimmy, now I remember. You do that tune justice. Can you do the dance and shimmy that goes along with it as well? Ahhh. That’s more like it!
plnnr, you are a wise specimen. Good looking too! And yes, BT, I don’t think we have played “Slow Ride” yet this hour. I’m sure both of you will understand why I have to apologize to betenoir, but we are already playing GF’s “Taking Care of Business” every chance we get.
Darby - Are you really more sick and tired of “Hey Joe”, than “Purple Haze” or “Watchtower”? I’m afraid we’ll have to give either of those the nod, cause they make for such cooler air guitar!
Elkman, take that namby pamby crap over to our moly oldies sister station.
This Friday morning, special for you listeners, don’t say you love me, cause you know I’ll only kick you out the door. Yes, Rod the Mod, and all of us here at W/KSD want you to “Stay With Me” all day long.
And, I’ll go ahead and blast the shit out of my own sucky rule and say, coming up:
Mr. Skin - Spirit
Sweet Jane - Mr. Reed
Band a Gong - T-Rex
All the Young Dudes - Mott the Hoople
Changes - David Bowie
I got it, but cannot limit it to only one song, sorry. This is an issue that has perturbed me for a long long time.
If I never ever ever hear EDGE OF SEVENTEEN by Stevie Knicks or ANY SONG AT ALL by Bob Seger, it will be too damn soon. I mean come on, lay off that shit already people.
The Boss, “Born to Run”, of course…
Shame, shame, Dinsdale. “Taking care of business” is BTO. GF’s overplayed song is “American Band”. And here in Columbus, Guess Who’s “American Women” has been in heavy rotation lately.
And “Hey,Joe” gets selected for Hendrix BECAUSE the other two songs are better for air guitar. If it’s still fun to listen to, it isn’t overplayed
Scott
Not to pick nits, D-dale, but don’t you mean BTO’s “Taking Care of Business”? And “BanG a Gong”? And for my next candidate, I humbly submit Traffic, “Low Spark of High-heeled Boys” ('nuther DC101 fav). triple-bleeeccchhh
I’d have to go with American Band here, especially since Sweet, Sweet Connie is a friend. And, no, I haven’t enjoyed her act, although she’s offered.:o <—That’s what she looks like when she starts.
Thank myself that Satan hasn’t taken me task for yesterday’s brain fart. At least not yet.
Ahhhh, DC101. A great radio station when I lived up there (Cerph was a particular favorite DJ - did you know that he’s the man who announces “Let’s hear it for Little Feat” at the beginning of Waiting for Columbus?). I also seem to remember a particularly mellow late night DJ who had a “Wednesday Friendsday” show. WHFS out of Annapolis was also terrific. They’ve all gone to hell now, or so I understand. Does WPGC still broadcast up there? WPGC was what you listened to in junior high, when you got to high school you could move over to DC101 and WAVA-105 (if I remember that correctly).
Oh my goodness. How could I have typed TCB when, I swear, I was thinking “American Band.” “We’ll come into your house, we’ll help you party it down, …” Screams and soaring guitar riffs. Oh my.
Any way, we’re still gonna play the shit out of TCB.
And ya don’t like “Bang a Gong” BF? Well then, going out for BF, I’m just a “Jeepster” for your love! Yes, “Low Spark” is just the type of music we love here - mediocre and LONG!
Don’t forget, we also play:
“Radar Love” - Golden Earring
“All Right Now” - Free
“Frankenstein” - Edgar Winter
“Rock & Roll Hootchiekoo” - Derringer
“Bridge of Sighs” - Robin Trower
Let’s see, now. We need something by Bad Co., Badfinger, Aerosmith, Nugent …
Since we’ve opened this up…
Freebird by, Lynerd Skynerd,
Don’t Fear the Reaper, by Blue Oyster Cult,
Fly Like an Eagle, by Steve Miller AND his The Joker.
The entire Dark Side of the Moon album by Pink Floyd.
Only the Good Die Young by Billy Joel
That’s what I can think of immediately, more later.
HA!!! Bad Co.‘s gotta be “Shooting Star”, A-smith is definitely "Walkin’ in the Sand", Badfinger doing McCartney’s “Come and Get It”, oh man, I’m starting to feel vomitus eruptus comin’ on!!
That was the growth chart as I remember, first PGC then DC101. BTW, one of the guys I work with has a WPGC sticker on his car, and he just moved down here two years ago.
I think you mean:
“Another Brick in the Wall pt. 2”
or, less frequently,
“Another Brick pt.1”->“The Happiest Days of Our Lives”->“Another Brick pt. 2”
Anything from Rush, as long as it’s “Tom Sawyer” (or occasionally, “Closer to the Heart”)
one more - this time an annoying one
“Jukebox hero” - (can’t remember the artist)
Hmmmm…Bridge of Sighs or Boom, Boom, Out Go the Lights? A very difficult choice.
As for Aerosmith, my call goes to “Sweet Emotion” or “Walk this Way.”
For a while “Comfortably Numb” seemed to be on a continuous loop, even replacing “Money.” “Paranoid” could usually be counted on, but sometimes they would sneak in “Iron Man” or “War Pigs” if they were feeling particularly adventuresome. “No one Like You” by the Scorprions was usually included sometime as well. “Shooting Star” by Bad Company. I don’t recall “Under Pressure” getting alot of play, but “Bohemian Rhapsody” sure as hell did (I suppose the novelty of it when new, and the fact that all classic rock songs have to be at least 5 mintues long added it to the list). My favorite Queen song, which got some limited airplay on DC101 when News of the World came out was “Its Late.” Crunchy guitar, not alot of multi-tracked vocals.
As the song says, “Thank you, Marconi.”
And to think, they didn’t seem at all annoying when we were 17 years old.
Dream On - Aerosmith
No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature - Guess Who
Feel Like I’m Fixin To Die Rag - Country Joe & The Fish
Mississippi Queen - Mountain
Paradise By The Dashboard Lights - Meatloaf
Juke Box Hero was Foreigner - off the 4 album, I believe.
Man, Freyr beat to saying “Freebird”
So I will go with thre that been left out. “Sweet Emotion” by Aerosmith. And definetely “Cat Scatch Fever” and don’t forget “Stranglehold”
And I can’t believe nobody brought up any Steve Miller. How “Rockin Me Baby” (i think I got the song title right but ya’ll know what song I am talking about. And what about “Tush”. You can’t leave out “Tush”.
I almost forgot “Rocky Mountain Way” is on every classic rock playlist and it should be. I love that song.
Hell’s Bells - AC/DC
School’s Out - Alice Cooper
Addicted to Love - Robert Palmer
White Wedding - Billy Idol
and I think instead of “Changes”, we’ll play only “Sufragette City”.
Karn Evil #9 - ELP
Does Proud Mary merit inclusion?
Ike and Tina or CCR?
