How do you clean a halogen lamp. I have this design lamp-stand with a halogen lamp pointing upwards. I haven’t
used the lamp some time, and dust has gathered on the lamp.
Touching a halogen lamp with hands reduces its life-span.
Now, how can I remove the dust without reducing the lamps lifespan ?
IIRC, the big problem with touching a halogen lamp is the oils your fingers tend to leave on the lamp (we had this same problem, to a higher degree, with theatrical lighting elements).
First of all, there should be a glass shield over the bulb itself. You should be able to touch that with impunity. I’d recommend using a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to get all of the dust and gunk out of the top of the lamp. Then I’d wipe down the glass shield with isopropyl alcohol (although window washing liquid, sprayed on the paper towel should work just as well), let it dry thouroughly, then fire it back up. Do not touch the shield if the lamp has been on at any time in the past 20 minutes, as it will burn you (and perhaps explode from the temperature difference of the Windex)
If by some chance you do end up touching the bulb itself, wipe it down with the aforementioned alcohol, check it for visible fingerprints or smudges, and if there are none, it should be as good to go.
