Cleaning LCD Screens

What do YOU use to clean your screens? What should one use?
I’ve been using plain water and Kleenex, but doesn’t seem to do a very good job.
Any suggestions?

I use a moist microfiber cloth to clean my laptop screen. I got the cloths from Target; they’re grey and white with orange stitching around the edges, and I found them in the automotive section.

Kleenex is not a good choice. It leaves fibres behind and can scratch the screen. You should try to find a soft dry dustcloth, for dust, and a similar soft cloth you can moisten, for stains.

At most electronics stores they sell a variety of products that are more alcohol based and come with a special fiber cloth.

I bought a fairly large bottle a few years ago for my computer and plasma television. I think I have only used a small amount so far. At this rate, I should have the bottle until 2026.

Worth investing in the right product instead of maybe scratching your screens.

Read the manual for your monitor or look it up online. Cleaning the monitor differently can damage it. The manual for mine says to use a soft, damp cloth. I use an old t-shirt. Works fine.

I have a soft cloth and some alcohol-based cleaner that were intended for use on eyeglasses. Since I no longer need glasses, I use them on my LCDs instead.

General tip: Never spray anything directly on the screen. Spritz your cleaning cloth instead. Liquids sprayed on the screen can run behind the bezel, possibly damaging the electronics inside. We used to call it Windex Syndrome when we saw it in CRT sets.

Thanks all. I have a glasses cleaning kit I’ll use, spraying on the cloth first.
