Cleansing/detox diets and avoiding all dairy

How about masturbating in private?

On second that, you probably don’t want to mention that to the roomies.

I was under the impression that chelation therapy was a lot of crap too.

Rob

Chelation therapy as a means of scavenging toxic heavy metals from the body is a long-standing (and the only effective) method of removing said elements from the body. The pseudoscience/alternative medicine contingent has latched onto the term “chelation therapy” as a means of validating various treatments or herbal supplements that do not fall under the definition of chelation agents and/or do not perform the functions they are ascribed (i.e. removing excess calcium from arteries, “deionizing blood”, blah blah blah). Genuine chelation agents tend to have adverse side effects that must be managed or mitigated, and are almost exclusively used by trained physicians in cases of known occupational exposure to heavy metals. (Heavy metal compounds absorbed from environmental sources are usually unknown until advanced degenerative symptoms begin to occur, and are at that point usually too dispersed and/or have done too much irreperable neurological or endocrine damage for the scavenging effects of chelating agents to have much effect.)

So, as with quantum mechanics and natural selection, fakirs, frauds, and filchers have co-opted the language of science in order to justify unsubstantiated or outright wrong claims. Don’t let that unfortunate association keep you from discerning fact from fiction.

I wouldn’t recommend Activia to anyone. Have you ever looked at the nutritional facts? Not only does it not taste as good as other yogurts, it’s also has as many calories at 4oz as 6oz of other brands. There must be a lot of sugar going into it, not that it improves the taste.

They have “lite” Activa, but it’s not for the taste- it’s for their Probiotics.

Actually they’re wrong, doorstep delivery of milk in the U.K. used to be very common and it was quite common to find small holes in the foil covers of milk bottles where song birds had pushed their beaks through to drink the milk.

Also many people put out cows milk for hedgehogs, foxes and feral cats which these wild animals drink quite happily.

There’s a yogurt that tastes good?

They all taste like spoiled milk to me.

Which just goes to show that one man’s meat (or yogurt) is another man’s poison.

I have nothing against people avoiding foods they personally dislike, but it’s always struck me as bizarre to put aside large categories of food for non-medical reasons. Or for consuming outrageous amounts of one particular food - we’re omnivores, we’re supposed to eat a large variety of stuff.

Yes, many adult humans can’t digest lactose - but many can and there’s nothing wrong with that.

And the main reason most wild animals don’t drink milk is because they haven’t figured out how to milk cows, or don’t have the necessary flexible apendages with which to perform the task. Most animals - even many non-mammals like birds - WILL drink milk, lap up cream, and eat cheese if they can find a way to obtain it.

You have to get the fruity ones. I love Astro but don’t know if you can get it. I’ve also enjoyed Danone.

Heck, I’ve had cats that loved yogurt and sour cream. I seriously doubt any animal would turn down an ice cream if offered it.

Not only that, but the benefits of calcium in dairy foods have been proven in several studies (scroll to end of the link for a list of other studies).

Oh god, yes. Dannon La Creme Yogurt Mousse (vanilla) tastes almost like cheesecake.

I’m amazed that the anti-milk thing is still going on. I argued this one with a lady back in the mid-to-late '80s. She had some sort of “anti-mucus” diet she was following. Mucus of any sort was supposed to be bad for you and milk inevitably led to mucus. The proof that dairy was bad for you was that a man drinking milk from a cow’s udder while wearing a business suit would look silly. I pointed out that he’d look equally silly grubbing-up potatoes with his teeth, but that didn’t seem to count for some reason.

Yoplait has a lot of dessert type ones, like their “Whips”. Chocolate mousse.

I also have found that frozen yogurt can taste almost richer than ice cream. Somehow creamier.
