Clear Glass Shower Doors

My Darling Marcie has asked me to ask you guys how the hell does one clean soap scum from clear glass shower doors without resorting to industrial grade toxic cleansers that cannot be safely used without wearing a breathing apparatus within some period of time less than one hour?

Clear glass means smooth glass. I use a razor blade.

Enjoy,
Steven

Best solution: once you’ve braved the toxic fumes to get them clean, start using one of those “spray after every shower” products. I found that they’ll keep a clear glass door from getting opaque in the first place. It’s not that you *never *have to clean them again, but the time between cleanings lengthens by an order of magnitude.

LouisB, since you’re in roughly the same place as I, then your water is full of fun-lovin’ minerals (not to be confused with the Fun Lovin’ Criminals). Once you get it clean, I highly recommend that you get a squeegee. After every shower squeegee off the excess water. This will keep your shower door/window cleaner for longer, and give you both a clear view to each other, if you know what I mean… wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more…

IME, a Mr. Clean Magic Sponge works wonders on soap scum on clear glass shower doors!

His problem will be, it’s not just soap scum, it’s mineral deposits. He can try the Magic Sponge (I’m all for it - I make money whenever anyone buys one), but it may not cut through lime, calcium, etc. Hopefully it will and will fund my retirement, so I love the suggestion.

Vinegar. It will dissolve calcium deposits just fine. Cheap, and non-toxic.

Try a lemon oil furniture polish, but please be careful as it makes the bathtub or shower tile slicker than ice.

Obligatory Aliens reference.

What? Why is that, if I may ask? The bolding and italicized bit, that is.

I have used vinegar as well with favorable results. I have read that WD40 works too. I have never tried that.

You can try the liquid cleanser. The kind with baking soda as an abrasive…I’ve had pretty good luck with that. But a razor blade IS faster!

Just a WAG, he probably owns a tidy little chunk of Proctor and Gamble stock.

Yes. The amounts I make on each sale are measured in something like pico-cents, though. Maybe 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 per each sold.

Hmmm. This is actually something you could probably get a pretty decent approximation of. You’d have to know how many shares of the stock there are and how many units P&G sells of all their products and their profitability, but since it’s a publicly held stock it’s probably available. I’d love to know what the percentage of each sale you really do get.

I’ve had pretty good luck with that purple Kaboom stuff. And elbow grease. LOTS of elbow grease.

The squeegee idea works great - but the spray after shower cleaner works well too.

I’ll see if I can sort that out when I get home. I used to have a few thousand shares, but now it’s down in the hundreds at best.

Why not simply dismount the panel, take it outside, and clean it there?

Each panel is 72 inches tall x 48 inches wide x 3/4 inch deep. In other words, each panel weighs approximately two times more than I can lift and there are two panels; the panels are upstairs, outside is downstairs and I doubt I could survive the trip. If I were young and hardy, that is exactly what I would do.
