clemens testifies

I’ve always liked Greg Maddux over Clemens, so a small part of me is cheering for the Rocket to go down, just so that Greg will be known as the best (non-cheating) pitcher of his generation.

It’s small of me, I know, but Roger has always been a bit of pugnacious jerk. I would love for Bonds and Clemens to share a cell together somewhere… Maybe they can make the All-Artificial prison softball team.

Does this mean we’re now blaming the thrown-bat-at-Piazza incident on steroids, rather than Roger just being batshit crazy?

After the hearing the chairman said the hearing was done at Rogers request. I did not know he could do that. They offered him a chance to talk to the Mitchell commission and he refused.

Mcnamee’s lawyer is predicting a pardon from Rog’s friend Dubya should it be needed, but surely any trial would take place long aftre he’s out of office- can he pardon him before charges are filed?

Ford pardoned Nixon before any charges were filed. So…probably, yes.

Pardon? Fat lot of good that’s going to do for “his name”.

His name is mud, as far as I’m concerned.

Not that I believe Clemens, because I don’t, but that’s hearsay, and I don’t believe you can send someone to prison on hearsay.

Clemens has big piles of money at home and if he does eight months in Club Fed for perjury, big whoop. What this damages, irreperably, is his reputation, and based on the hysterical level of denial that obviously is what matters to him.

Objectively, based solely on on field performance, it can be argued that Roger Clemens is the greatest pitcher in baseball history. He is undoubtedly, based on that performance, the greatest of our time. Since Barry Bonds is certainly the greatest player in modern baseball history - since Babe Ruth, anyway - we now have the greatest pitcher and greatest hitter of their times under a permanent cloud of scum.

Well, isn’t that just fucking terrific.

Yup.

Bonds doesn’t “bother” me. Never paid much attention to him.

But Clemens. Clemens was just a pitcher’s pitcher, you know?

Well, maybe Randy Johson is clean. Always liked the Big Unit. Or Goose. I hope so.

If Randy was doing steroids and HGH ,they didn’t work and he should get his money back. How skinny would he be .?

rofl

For Roger its down to the Hall of Fame. He claims he does not care about it. This I do not believe.

But…but…he “thought it was the ball”. A man that could tell if one seam was missing from a baseball couldn’t distinguish a bat from a ball. Roger’s pitching skills were unequaled but he sure sucks as a liar.

This entire affair has been embarrassing to almost everyone involved. Brian McNamee, an utter sleazoid, is the only one who comes out looking BETTER than before the hearings began.

My take, in simplest form, is this: if I were on a jury and asked whether there was enough evidence to put Clemens in jail, I’d vote no. Too much depends on the word of McNamee, who is so slimy a character that I couldn’t put anyone in jail just on his say-so. There’s enough reasonable doubt to keep Clemens out of jail.

But NOT enough reasonable doubt for anyone to take Roger Clemens seriously as an unfairly injured, wounded party.

  1. Roger Clemens came across as an arrogant, lying bastard.

  2. The Congressional Democrats looked liked grandstanding phonies (is there ANY reason an issue like this belongs in Congress in the first place?).

  3. The Congressional Republicans were disgusting in the way they fawned over Clemens.

Everyone involved should be ashamed of himself or herself, especially those ass-kissing Republicans.

I could understand if one’s perceptions about the veracity of Clemens’ statements and, in general, support or disdain for the man were to break out maybe along some division like an affiliation with the AL or NL, gender, or even if one does or doesn’t like sports.

But political party affiliation… on a baseball pitcher’s rep? Yeah, shameful and bizarre. As partisan as this Congress is, I still didn’t see that coming, especially to the degree it was apparent.

A sleezebag trainer takes an arrogant liar out of the HOF in a sport unwilling to police itself, made public by a bunch of blowhards making asses of themselves. What a sordid mess.

I call this “Rabbits” syndrome, where someone starts a thread about some event, usually sports related for some reason, that only those who know what they’re talking about will understand. Everyone else will just go “What the…?”

It’s like if I started a thread that said “Rabbits! Eh? Rabbits! You betcha!” and then just sat back and assumed people would agree with me.

Anyhoo, I now return you to whatever the heck this thread is actually about.

Clemens will get off.

When the prosecutor gets up to do his final address Roger will pitch him high and inside. One, two three 98 mph fastballs above the hands and he will have struck out another foe.

Don’t forget the sensationalizing media with its hyperventilating coverage.
