Click It or Ticket

The seat belt has nothing to do with it. They are enforcing a behavior that does not involve operating a vehicle or provide safety to others.

Please explain how wearing a seatbelt does not involve operating a vehicle or providing safety to others.

It’s self explanatory. It is not required to operate the car nor does it add any level of safety to those exposed to the actions of the driver.

you have yet to address what I said earlier about the Supreme Court’s position on personal risk as it applies to medical decisions. There is no specific law in the Constitution regarding this issue. The freedom to decide one’s own risk is implied.

Which means, per the Tenth Amendment, that the issue is delegated to the states.

Thank you for conceding that I was right.

again, which you seem incapable of responding to, I cited Supreme Court opinion regarding a person’s right to choose risk. It is an implied RIGHT.

If you don’t want to debate it that’s fine.

I cringe every time I hear or see “Click It or Ticket”. It’s a bad rhyme!!!

Read this thread again for solid examples…this time, with your eyes open.

Pennsylvania has a DUI slogan: “you can’t afford it”.

I think the slogan and signage sucks. There are people who can easily afford the legal fees involved in a first DUI offense. Should they therefore drive intoxicated?

Quite a lot of replies, even after I’ve already stated the thread was a stupid idea and I’m done with it. Certainly not reading them all. That said, after reading the first several posts, I’ve determined that these are probably the most popular arguments:

Okay.

Okay. So they’re on their own. They assumed that risk when they chose not to wear a seatbelt. This shouldn’t bother you.

Everybody dies. It’s not really a big deal. Besides, it’s not really your place, or anyone else’s, to dictate the lives of random people because you can’t bear to see them removed from the world.

You are wrong. I always wear a seatbelt.

But they’re NOT on their own. I have never seen or heard of a medical provider, police person, or first responder deciding not to treat someone who did not wear a seat belt. Have you?

Your argument is, “I don’t like someone showing I’m wrong?” Really? That’s not a very persuasive argument.

Why can’t you be bothered to read all the posts to your thread? And did you get to the part where we asked your age?

I have. Almost every one of them.

I read every one of the responses. lots of them (like yours) did not address my point. The Supreme Court acknowledges an implied right to control one’s medical risk.

Does the Supreme Court acknowledge an implied right to endanger the lives of others by operating a vehicle in an unsafe manner?

driving without a seat belt does not affect the operation of the vehicle.

Have you even been reading this thread?

are you capable of addressing what I’ve said? Seriously? I’ve cited a specific legal argument that is relevant to seat belt use and personal risk in general.

Cite??

And we’ve shown that not wearing a seatbelt poses a risk not only to the driver, but to others as well.
