Climate science film "Thin Ice"

This is more a GQ than CS topic, IMHO, but move it if appropriate.

I just got a notice that the film “Thin Ice” will be playing in a local library, hosted by a local… character. The blurb says the film is “skeptical.”

So I’ve poked around and found a few comments about the film, mostly on its own site, thiniceclimate.org. (Don’t confuse this documentary [or “documentary”] with a lame comedy movie of the same name starring Greg Kinnear, BTW).

A surface reading is that it’s about the scientists who investigate climate change. But my BS detector is howling and the more I look at things like the list of supporting agencies and organizations, many of which are thanked for things like “housing during our 2012 visit,” the louder it gets. I smell a veneer of false support leading to The Real Truth About There Being No Such Thing As Global Warming.

Anyone know the real slant of this film, or have a good neutral review of it?

By the time Lamb’s journey ended, “Thin Ice” managed to present a convincing case for the reality of global warming by showing that climate scientists do know what they are saying and doing.

Yes, I’m finding a few more reviews that seem to indicate it’s not a denier piece. Something about it - at least, its promotion - really is setting off my woo detector, though. The phrasing of its position, supposed supporters, etc. all seems excessively qualified and indirect.

The story line is Simon’s journey as a geologist. He has heard the terrible things the press have been reporting about his climate science colleagues, so he decides to take his camera and find out what’s really happening.

The key messages from this 73 minute film are that scientists can be trusted and that ultimately we have to quit using fossil fuels. We do not try and say how this should be done, but we hope that the film will lead audiences into some deeper thinking on the issue and perhaps even a shift toward solutions.

More than six years in the making, Thin Ice is a response to climate sceptics and a compelling look at the changes taking place in the Earth’s atmosphere, oceans and ice sheets. It documents the hopes, fears and sense of urgency driving scientists studying these changes.

I’m not seeing any negative response to the film from climate scientists.
