It’s a reasonable guess that they thought their donations would help get access to the Clintons. They also might be dropping donations because they think Trump would see continued donations as insulting. But that doesn’t mean the Clintons were purposefully running a pay to play scheme. By all informed accounts, the charity does good work and isn’t some slush fund. No reports of the Clinton Foundation buying portraits of Bill or paying off lawsuits, for example.
I could probably agree with all of that. The Clinton Foundation does good work and even a small amount of support from the Clinton foundation can be very beneficial because other charities use it as a marker when they look for places to spend their own money. However, this does not apply as well to the Clinton Global Initiative where the people were lining up donors with speeches with outside opportunities, etc.
How would you feel about a Trump Foundation that did good work to which large corporations (like Exxon) and foreign countries (like Russia) regularly contributed shit tons of money. And there was a subsidiary of that foundation that also helped book high paying gigs for Trump’s wife and his supporters.
My only outrage is that none of the Dems on this board demanded Clinton’s impeachment as Sec of State because if a foreign government ever paid to hear her speak then she is in violation of the Emoluments Clause.

Do you have an article that describes that last accusation against the Clinton’s? My impression is that supposedly CGI paid some guy to speak and then their company hired a Clinton to speak in return not that CGI explicitly helped book speaking gigs for the Clintons. That theory is brought up a lot less often than the “pay to play” accusation.
That NY Times quote above was actually referring to Bill recieved the $500k though the post I was responding to asked specifically about Hillary. Sorry if that was misleading.

Its at least smoke if not fire. We can’t be entirely sure who set the fire or if the fire was set intentionally but it doesn’t look great.
I have as much proof of that as I do that a foreign government paid Trump for a room in his hotel and he did not give it to the US Treasury as promised … meaning none whatsoever. There is proof that the money was given to her foundation as a donation. Did Hillary ever receive a salary from the CF? No but they did get the CF to pay for their travel. If what Trump does is a violation of the Emoluments Clause then so is that. And what about countries paying for influence?

His books come out of Regnery Publishing, coming to be known as Remainder House, which has become the fondest dream of maybe a hundred dollar store AM radio “talk show” hosts, shrieking to be noticed about all the other meth-addled baboons.
