Clive Cussler question

I make no apologies. I read Clive Cussler. To be sure he is not Shakespeare, Dickins or even Flemming. He is a fun thriller author who knocks out mind candy that you can read in an airport, sitting on a park bench or even during a wedding that your wife dragged you to. You notice the holes in the plots but it really doesn’t bother you that much.

But lately, what is with Cussler? In the last two Dirk Pitt novels he has written himself (Cussler) into the plot as something of a featured character.

I always thought it was relatively clear that Pitt was Cussler’s alter ego, has that ego become so great that Cussler needs to see himself talk to himself?

A friend said he thought that Admiral Sandecker was also an alter ego of Cussler which would make for an interesting triangle of self love.

Here’s a recent short discussion on this very topic:

not just the last two. it has been quite a few of the last few books, at least as far back as treasure.

i think that mr cussler may have gotten a bit bogged down with pitt and is putting in little winks here and there. good grief, i didn’t see the ending of atlantis found coming. i’m wondering where he is gonna go with that. he seems to be hitting the “every other book” syndrome.

ooops, i meant valhalla rising. oy.
