Every time the subject of cats comes up on SDMB, somebody jumps in with a smug, arrogant blanket statement like this. “The way things work where I live is the way everybody should do it everywhere, just because I say so.”
Well, give it a rest.
I have allowed my cats to be indoor/outdoor animals for the last 18 years. I have never had one of them killed by a car or other outdoor hazard. I let them go in or out as they please during the day, and bring them in as soon as it gets dark, because that’s when the predators come out. I have over 50 acres for them to explore, and my neighbors have similar property.
Now stop and think about your original statement. Not “Most people should keep their cats inside,” but “my way is the only way.” There are responsible cat owners who allow their animals outside.
