C'mon! Stumpmeter?!!

Yeah, I know what one is, what it measures and that it was named for its inventor, but come on!!

It would have taken five extra minutes to come up with a better name.

Err, you wouldn’t be thinking of the Stimpmeter would you Chief??? [winking smilie omitted because I want to live a while longer] Named after Mr Stimpson.

Keith

Damn you, Odie. Yes, of course Stimpmeter.

Putz.

Well… what would you have called it?

I’ll bite. What’s a stimpmeter?
Does it measure S.T.P.?

It’s a device for measuring the ‘quickness’ of a golf green. It measures how far a golf ball rolls on the green when rolled down a standardized length of aluminum held at a specific angle.

The pros usually play on greens that run between 9’ and anywhere up to 11’ or slightly more on the truly diabolical courses. For comparison, the ‘club’ speeds are usually between 7.5 and 8.5

Everything you wanted to know about the Stimpmeter but were afraid to ask, from the US Golf Association website.

And my choice for a name was Roll-O-Meter but nobody asked me before.

Way to go, Ankh!

The purpose of the Stimpmeter was specifically left out of the OP (hence the thread’s presence in MPSIMS vice GQ) to stimulate speculation as to what it may be.

Attaboy, threadkiller.

Oh quit yer whining, Chief.

(Welcome back, btw…)
