CNN doesn't like the US 1st amendment

Eh, the guy appealed to Heller. Heller was a revisionist decision, and I’m afraid I cannot, for political as well as common-sense reasons, give it the respect people want it to have.

the Constitution in a living breathing document, so with anyone in Office, needs to protect and obey it

its for the people and to the people of this nation …

it has a set of laws that were made for a reason and not to be rewritten for ones self

and with the ID question, when you go pay a bill or cash a cheque or use a credit card. what do they ask for …?? should be the same in voting …

and plus the DMV issues IDs to anyone that can prove that they are a resident of a state …

Not sure what you’re going for here, but let’s move on.

To the people? Kind of new, but whatever.

Umm, OK - actually, they are meant to be rewritten, that’s why there’s a process for amendment. But it does need to be for more than 1 person, hence the voting.

A signature is what is typically what is asked for when paying by credit card - so I agree with you here.

This isn’t really true, but it’s irrelevant since you don’t think an ID should be required.

heck, i am for IDs and if you can not prove or provide one … exit out of the door that you came in at

I thought you said voting should have the same requirements as paying for something by credit card?

Why the sudden change of heart?

should be the same as in showing ID

ID is requirement to cash a cheque or using a major credit card at a retailer

Must be an American thing. I’ve used major credit cards at multiple retailers for decades. Only rarely does a clerk even go so far as to glance at the signature on the card. Now with PIN technology and tap technology, even that’s falling away.

While retailers can ask for ID Mastercard and VISA expressly forbid requiring it to complete the transaction as long as the card is signed. Discover allows a retailer to require an ID but who uses Discover anyway.

I’ll mention it to my mom, but I’m much bigger now. I don’t think she’ll be happy about it.

It’s ridiculous that a major political party needs to actively discourage and prevent people from voting in order to stay in power.

As mentioned above, here are the requirements to vote in a federal election in Canada:

I have no problem with similar requirements in this country. I don’t see why this wouldn’t also satisfy you.

If Luis Gutiérrez is against something, isn’t it obvious it is something most Americans would support?

He makes a great case for voter ID here. Of course he doesn’t realize it though.

He doesn’t want people that look like Selena gomez or Justin Beiber to have to show ID, but he proves that you can’t tell by looking.

ID is the right thing to do.

This appears to presuppose that no one is disenfranchised from participating in the economy, or that if anyone is, it’s acceptable for such persons to be politically disenfranchised as well.

Exactly.

See also: when was the last time you were asked for an ID to use a credit card? And not at a hotel or overseas? It’s been at least a few years for me. Swipe and go. The issuing bank is expected to sort out identity fraud issues these days.

You trust the “bank”?

Never at a major retailer, but all the time and smaller ma & pop places or local chains. It annoys me and I sometimes feel like pointing out it’s against their merchant agreement to require ID, but I know that’s not going to get me anywhere, so I just shut up and show my ID.

Apparently, not illegal immigrants

So you’re saying that if using a credit requires an ID, then obviously voting and credit card are similar enough that they should have the same requirements.

But if it turns out that you don’t need an ID to use a credit card, then obviously you can’t compare those two things when it comes to what should be needed because they’re totally different.

Basically, you’re a disingenuous piece of shit who doesn’t think things through at all and just hopes that the facts will work out to fit his preconceived notions because you’re too fucking stupid to reason your way toward an outcome that makes sense, let alone come with any kind of argument with an ounce of logic behind it .
