CNN Town Hall with Donald Trump: May 10, 2023

Yes. Because sexual assault is hilarious. And jurors are idiots. Keep talking.

Biden is apparently on AF1 at the moment and ordered the TVs turned to MSNBC instead of CNN.

Attendee: What would you do to combat inflation?

Trump: Drill for more oil. [Word salad as to how oil is the lynchpin of the economy.] And I rebuilt the economy by charging the Chinese lots of tariffs.

Aside from me: wasn’t it Americans who paid those tariffs through higher prices on Chinese goods?

On the debt situation: “Our country is being destroyed by stupid people.”

Cripes, this guy is a compulsive liar.

Once in a while, he does say something true.

Of course, what plays badly with a NY metro jury won’t hurt him in GOP primaries (and I’m utterly unsure if it will hurt him nationally).

I agree with this one. Though I’m sure we disagree about which are the stupid people.

On the 2A: “Nobody has defended those rights more than me.” To his credit, he does acknowledge a mental health crisis.

Moving on, he states that schools needed to be hardened. He alludes to some teachers and administrators being ex-military. My reading between the lines: arm teachers and administrators, and appoint security guards to attend at entrances.

I don’t.

The stupid people concept is, well, um, less than brilliant.

On abortion, especially how it plays with women voters after the overturning of Roe v. Wade: Bunch of mush about how babies will be born, and then “they” (whoever “they” are) will decide whether or not to kill the baby.

Mod: Would you sign a national abortion ban into law?

Trump: [Doesn’t really answer the question; he would negotiate something because he’s a great negotiator. Then takes credit for overturning the Roe decision, through his three SCOTUS judge appointments.]

I can’t believe CNN agreed to this one sided audience thing. This is nothing more than another rally for him.

When pressed by the Mod to answer the above question with a simple Yes or No, he just blathered, and avoided a simple Yes or No.

What an idiot. The obvious answer, which he should have known, is “No, I wouldn’t, because the Supreme Court says that the federal government does not have the power to legislate abortion issues. That was the whole point of the Dobbs decision, which conservatives approved of.”

I watched for about a minute, during which time he bragged about how great the economy was during his administration. Then Covid hit, and ‘we had to do something different’, or some such BS.

I refuse to watch any more. As others have said, it’s another rally for him.

It might seem so on its face, but look at the attendees in the audience. Not one MAGA ball cap or Trump T-shirt to be seen. Attendees are well-dressed, articulate with their questions. RINOs? Perhaps, but by allowing a one-sided town hall, CNN is showing just how stupidly Trump can appear in front of his fellow party members, whom you’d expect to toss softball questions. But they’re not.

Northam ,gov of Virginia was a doctor. He once made remarks about comfort care for a non viable birth. The total dogs breakfast they make of that is criminal.
The only thing that shuts him up is the commercial break signal

Yes, my thought exactly. He lies, they laugh, and nobody cares about the truth.

mmm

And yet they enjoyed laughing along with him when he mocked E. Jean Carroll and his sexual abuse of her.

Of course. But their questions are good and solid and there are answers to them. I don’t know who could answer, but Trump is proving that he cannot.

On the wall: Blather blather blather, “I built hundreds of miles of wall.” “Of course we separate families, because if they know they will be separated, they won’t come.”

This is what makes it so difficult to watch – and believe me, I tried. The nauseating sound of his whiny voice is secondary. Plus, the hockey playoffs are on!
