The episode I tried watching Wednesday involved the DC sniper. I don’t know if all episodes of this series follow the same template, but this thing was infuriating. Every visual gimmick they could think of was thrown into this thing- before each interview they would show the clapper board, or whatever that thing is called. The interviewee would go from regular framing to tight close up to medium close up to black and white to grainy, and the last few seconds of each interview they would add the “telephone voice” filter. Real footage of the crime spree were chopped up into millisecond bursts, each with their own filter because otherwise (I guess they thought) viewer interest would flag. Actually, the story was good, the presentation style was tiresome and intrusive.
