Just when you thought CNN had reached an all-time low, now they’ve got a new show (I can’t even recall the name of it) that is composed of a group of people (I can’t even recall their names) just sitting around gabbing about various topics (I can’t even recall which topics). It’s like eavesdropping into someone’s living room. I actually had to check to see what channel I was watching. I thought somehow I was watching FOX. These weren’t even news “celebrities” like Wolf Blitzer or Anderson Cooper. It seemed like they were just guys (and gals) who were pulled in off the street, and who just sat around shootin’ the breeze, since they had nothing better to do with their lives. Well, I do.
At least they aren’t mining Bering sea gold or repossessing cars or running idiots out of a pawn shop. What you describe has to be a step up.
I just saw that there’s a new reality show about teaching celebrities how to do Olympic diving. People are apparently still failing upwards in the TV industry.
Still sounds better than The Today Show, which currently consists of about 8 rich white people standing around giggling for 24 minutes and then asking their segregated black friend outside about the weather.
Is this the one where they’re sitting around a glass table? It’s got Donny Deutch, no idea who he is other than he used to show up on Morning Joe on MSNBC, and he’s about two feet shorter than Joe Scarborough.
On CNN, I’m surprised they aren’t sitting around just reading from their twitter feeds.
They may as well have their television change to a text-based format, cause it’s so hard to find text on their website for all the videos.
With pointlessly complicated graphics.
I love it when the graphics totally obliterate the picture. Or when someone’s standing next to the “magic wall,” and the person is shown perfectly, while the “content” is all grayed out.
So many reasons to change the channel. I wonder who they think their demographic is.
“(Get to) The Point” is the name of it.
Jon Stewart just did a bit on it.
Unfortunately there’s no “point” to it.
I’ll still watch CNN for Soledad O’Brien, Anderson Cooper and Don Lemon. Ok, I’ll add Erin Burnett. That’s all.
Oh, and today they had a segment on “kitten cam.” I’m not making this up.
Apparently its a one week experiment that is replacing the Anderson Cooper rebroadcast. The experiment is almost over.
They replaced Anderson Cooper with a kitten for an entire week?
REbroadcast. New show at 8pm. Rebroadcast at 10pm. They moved back the rerun to 11pm and put the new show at 10.
It’s OK. The black guy in the rain is also rich.
Which is why it’s completely not racist even though they make him use his own bathroom and drinking fountain.
He deserves it. Some days he has to wing 4, even 5 minutes of ad libbing during the 12 hours the show is on.
I have spent the better part of 40 years trying to suss the popularity of morning shows, whether national or local, TV or radio. Who exactly wants to start their day with the babblings of a bunch of overcaffeinated bubbling gigglers or tweaked braying jackasses?
There was one radio station in the old town that pointedly avoided having any kind of “morning show,” just decent classic rock. Every once in a while they would nudge the listener with an intercut like, “We’re going to stop and make a stupid prank phone call now… no, wait a minute, the marketing guy just got fired so here’s some Steely Dan instead.”
Every once in a while I have to sit through Today or This Fucking Morning or Teeth On Parade in doctor’s office or something, and I don’t know what frays my nerves more, the show or the other people who are hanging on every giggle.
CNN Headline News used to be just a 20 minute no-nonsense run-through of the days biggest news on a loop and I loved that, but now they seem to have replaced it with magazine style shows.
Today Show is the biggest “WTF?” nonsense on TV, and that the witless and personality free nebbishes like Willie Geist (among others) earn millions while talented people die broke is another feather in the cap of atheist apologias.
I may regret asking, but what does atheism have to do with this?
