Coast to coast AM guest, you are an irresponsible asstulip (mild)

Okay, I like Coast To Coast AM. It’s a great talk-show to listen to for a laugh, and very entertaining if you are stuck driving late at night and you’re not into Fire-And-Brimstone Evangelists.

The topics are usually mentally stimulating, humourous, or just plain “shake your head and chuckle” off-the-wall. For example, I liked hearing about Jesus Christ’s son Jeremy’s trip to China, the fact that man never made it to the moon, the Illuminati making sure GWB got elected and cattle mutilations. But last night, they went over the line IMO.

There was a guest who basically said that the pharmaceutical companies were in bed with the government (which I don’t really dispute), but he went so far as to advise that people not get their children immunized.

I know pitting a conspiracy theory is pointless, but if even a few people believe this tripe, real children could get real diseases and really die.

Sorry, I’m too tired to swear.

If a kid has a parent who takes those kooks seriously, he’s got lots bigger problems than missing out on his dip-tet.

Hey, don’t blast Coast to Coast too hard. Last month our very own The Bad Astronomer was on for a long segment killing ignorance and shooting down dumbass theories.

You can check out the topics he covered here.

Anonymous Coward: I wasn’t blasting Coast to Coast AM, just the dumbass guest from last night. I do like the show.

Sorry, my post came out too negative. I meant it in a joking way.

Lots of people believe this tripe, and not all of them because they believe in a conspiracy. Check out this site for a variety of them. (As well as various other medical quacks, loonies, and political dingbats. The owner of the site is against 'em.) It’s really interesting browsing.

It’s becoming a mainstream view. I’m surprised you haven’t heard of it before.

The other day at work, our infectious disease lab got samples from four siblings, all under 10 years old, to be tested for Bordatella pertussis, aka whooping cough. They were all positive.

Damn.

These bastards are coasting on the herd immunity that responsible citizens are creating by vaccinated their kids. We can only hope that the anti-vaccination trend is quashed before there are a enough unvaccinated kids running around to create a few serious of outbreaks of measles or something vile.

If diseases started breaking out, I wonder how these goons would react? Would they start vaccinating, to protect their kids, or would they still think that preventing the spread of those easily-preventable diseases was somebody else’s responsiblity?

Won’t someone please think of the bacteria?
