Can anyone give me any background or links on the equipment used in a Coca-Cola Bottling Plant?
Primarily I’m interested in learning about Bottle Feeders, EDPs (?), Tri-Fills, Crown Cork and Seal Bottlers, and Palletizers. Are any of these machines considered Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)? Have I missed any important equipment?
I’ve googled around but have only found very limited information.
You can call a bottling plant and most of them have organized visits for the public.
I worked with the machines that manufacture the carbonated beverage (mixing syrup with water and then carbonating) and they were, indeed, controlled by PLCs in the simpler areas (on/off valves, etc) but had some more complex controllers for the linearly adjustable valves etc.
I do not know well the other machines (bottling, conveyors, etc) but I would think PLCs would be more than enough for them.
Assuming that you’re interested in bottling equipment in general rather than Coca-Cola specifically, you might want to look at the Thomas Register instead of Google. It’s an industrial directory.
Just to be clear, the PLC is a device used to control these types of machines. The machines themselves are not PLCs. The only other type of machine I can think of would be that many bottling plants also have lableing equipment.
