coca cola "side products"

dont know how true it is, so i feel i have to ask the masses if its true or not.

is kokain seperated from coca cola in the manufacturing process?

many rumours similar to this one have developed around the coca cola industry, this one is similar to a WWII one where it was said that they added kokain into coca cola for the soldiers to make them feel better.

bj0rn - facts only please.

Ahh, coke and cocaine, the old standby. Check out both Cecil’s and SNOPES’ articles on the subject. Here’s the gist: early on, there were small amounts of cocaine present in Coca-Cola (we’re talking 1890s here). By the very early 20th century, it was all but gone. US gov’t took the Coca-Cola company to trial, around…1913?, and the company showed that the amount of cocaine remaining in the final product was miniscule. The current state of cocaine in Coke? Far, far less than would ever be detectable. If you could drink enough Coke to get a cocaine buzz, you would already be dead from the caffeine.

On Coca Cola, read Pedergast’s book For God, Country, and Coca Cola, which has gone into a second edition. There’s also an interesting chapter on Coca Cola, Cocaine, and the history of Coke in William Poundstone’s Big Secrets. Finally, I’m not sure if it’s still up, but there was a lengthy history of Coca Cola, concentrating on the cocaine issue, at the Loompanics website at http://www.loompanics.com

Forget Coca-Cola. During WWII Benzedrine and Methamphetamine were regularly and freely distributed to soldiers.
