There are now about 70 stations (nationwide) broadcasting DTV and round two of DTV implementation will arrive this November. With all the controversy created by Sinclair Broadcasting over replacing 8VSB with COFDM, should Congress and the FCC delay implementation of Digital TeleVision or should the schedule continue as planned and if COFDM turns out to be superior in real world testing should it be implemented? The cost to the 70 some odd stations already on the air with 8VSB and the soon to be several hundred more stations (this coming November) could be a real challenge. It isn’t just changing out an exciter or two. TV set manufacturers will have to retool and develop a whole new set of receivers. Is it worth all the turmoil and effort?
