My son, almost 8, wants to have a cup of coffe once a week.
He says he tried it once at a PTA meeting and liked it.
I despise it myself, even with as much milk and or chocolate you could put in it.
Would decaffeinated coffee be bad for a child?
Most medical examinations that I’ve heard of seem to indicate that coffee (not just decaff) isn’t bad for a childs health.
A good link to check out is…
which has links to research papers dealing with coffee and kids. All seem to suggest that it isn’t more harmful for an 8-year old than a grown adult,
but personally I’d keep him on the hot chocolate a little longer.
I was drinking coffee (not decaffeinated) from time to time at that age. I can’t report any ill effects. Would you allow your kid to drink Pepsi?
Yes, he does drink pop, but it seems like it makes him hyper.
I started drinking coffee once a week when I was six and I can not remember any problems with it. However my body can not tolerate coffee now that I am all grown up.
I can’t imagine how it could harm him to have a cup once a week, even with caffeine. The problem with kids drinking soda (or in his case, coffee) is that they might drink it enough that they don’t eat/drink other, more healthy foods. A can of soda (or a cup of coffee with cream and sugar)has only empty calories, so you don’t want it to supplant a healthy snack. But as an occasional treat, I don’t think it could hurt him.
“Yes, he does drink pop, but it seems like it makes him hyper.”
Cuz of the sugar or the caffeine? You can get soda that doesn’t have those, we did, to much success.
I started drinking coffee at about that age, to no ill effects. Me mum found it the best way to get me out of bed and heading to school.
According to Pippi Longstocking it’s just fine for kids.
You can always be assured that it would state on the can ‘not for children’…
Recent researh from the PanAmerican Coffee Institute suggests your child should ONLY be drinking coffee.
Just kidding. And one or two cups a day are harmless. But coffee beans can be toxic to babies.
For the record, I have coffee at least once a day, and have had this habit for about 2 years. I can’t report any ill effects, but I tell ya, first time I found that black is better than with creamer or sugar, I could smell my piss (smelled like coffee) from about 15 feet away!
startled me then, and makes me laugh even today- prep him for that haha
I have been drinking coffee as often as I could get it from age 2 with no ill effect.
Buy him “Kiddie Koffee” to go with his morning “SiLlY cIgArEtTeS!” Twice the nicotine, with sugar-dipped tips and wacky colors!
Coffee used to be used as a treatment for hyperactivity in children (back in the 70s).
My daughter, when she was two, would chew on whole coffee beans like they were candy. We had to keep an eye on this because it doesn’t take too many coffee beans to give a two year old a buzz. She would also sometimes sip my coffee, although not often.
