It looks pretty cool; you use pre-measured “discs” of coffee (or tea) to instantly brew one cup on-demand. $100 is pretty reasonable for a good coffee maker, IMHO.
Anyone have one and care to comment?

i have the older system, and overall i’m quite fond of it. the discs are not exactly cheap, and somewhat limited retail availability. you’re better off buying direct, if you don’t mind mailorder. my machine is QUITE noisy, but i understand that’s been fixed with the redesigned system.
but it does makes a decent cup of coffee, tea, and even pretty good lattes and cappuccinos. if you just want one or two cups of coffee now and then, it’s pretty convenient.
I dont have a tassimo, I have a melitta 1:1 pod brewer.
I love my pod brewer, I even have a pod maker, and paper filter pods to make my own pods from upscale coffee like my Gevalia, and my loose leaf teas. I will never go back to regular teabag tea ever again after getting hooked on stash brand loose leaf teas. They even make a k-cup adaptor that you can put your own pods into.
Just saying that tassimo isnt the only option out there…and if you get a paper pod brewer or keurig brewer you can make your own pods and save an assload of money. I think 40 pod papers is like $10US …
yeah, on that point, if you primarily drink tea, your options are quite limited with the Tassimo. the only thing i can still find in the stores is earl grey and sometimes green. through their website, you can also get a chamomile, generic breakfast tea, and maybe an orange something-or-other.
IMHO, it produces a lot of waste. If you’re into making conscious choices at all, consider the extra packaging, paper, wrappers, electricity, etc. over simply boiling water and brewing with loose leaf tea and a strainer or a french press for coffee. They take so little effort. It seems to me sometimes these machines are mostly made for people who don’t know how to make the beverages on their own. I had a friend who bought an iced tea maker. I was like, “WTF? brew tea and add ice… why is that hard?” Was for her, I guess.
We have one. I have yet to find a straight coffee I like for it (I’ve tried the two Starbucks brands, Maxwell House, and Nabob, and find them all too bitter for my taste). My wife loves the Starbucks coffee.
but I just love the Latte and Cappuccino they make. And it’s significantly easier. I know it’s not hard to make Latte’, but it’s time consuming enough that I never, ever made them at home unless guests were coming over. You’d have to brew coffee, steam milk, whip it, then clean all the implements after. Not worth it for a single cup of Latte or Cappuccino.
But with the Tassimo, you put your cup in the machine, put in an Espresso disc, press a button. When it’s done, you put in the Latte mix disc, press a button. And enjoy. So now I’ve been having one after supper on a regular basis. The machine was worth it for that alone.
And yes, it’s more expensive that if you make it from bare ingredients, but it’s about 1/5 the price of a Latte from Starbucks.
I have the older Tassimo and I love it. I have it in my office at work and it saves me a trip to the coffee shop and about a dollar per cup. I like some of the teas but usually I make the Jacobs Espresso and turn it into a mocha. The hot chocolate is great too. Clean-up is practically non-existent. It is a bit loud, but only for about a minute.
On a very side note, one thing I did not like was that the Tassimo web site sold my e-mail address. I have my own domain and used tassimo@[mydomain.com] on their site, and started getting spam almost immediately to that address. I notified them twice about it, but never got a response.
