Colbert Super PAC vs. Mitt

Ok.

So currently the FCC sanctions radio stations for allowing people to swear on the air.

If it’s constitutional for the FCC to fine shock jocks that swear shouldn’t it be constitutional for the FCC to fine shock jocks that make racist, sexist, and homophobic comments?

Furthermore do you A)believe that shock jocks should be fined for swearing but not making racist comments B)believe that shock jocks shouldn’t be fined for swearing but should be fined for racist jokes C)believe they should be fined for both or D)believe they shouldn’t be fined for either.

Thanks

I think that the FCC can regulate cable radio tv, all of it in any way that does not regulate content.

I think media outlets will generally self regulate on content. The public would punish CBS, ABC or NBC if they started running soft core porn during dinner but would probably be OK with a little bit of nudity after the kids are off to bed. There is a market for Howards Stern and frankly if you made it less risky to drop F Bombs, Howard Stern would have a lot of competition.

But that’s all besides the point.

I think that political speech is generally sacred. The only thing MORE sacred that politcal speech is the integrity of our democratic elections. If there is a real danger of distorting or subverting the democratic process then I have no problem with limiting how much money can be spent on an election.
