Gotta question for ya. I’m going to be in Amsterdam next month and one of the guys I’m going with has family there who own a bar/theare thing called Boom Chicago. Have you been there? Heard of it? Whats it like? I’m hoping for a little unbiased opinion on the offer of free tickets and dinner.
Aren’t Mods honor bound to read all the posts in their forums? I’m beginning to think that this Coldy clown is slacking off on teh job, where’s his supervisor?
My friends who have been there told me that Boom Chicago are very very funny. Well worth the price of admission. It is 2nd on my list of things to do next time I go to A’dam. 1st is getting clogboy drunk
I’ll go get the little bastard. He’s probably fallen asleep reading a trade magazine in the john again. I swear, one more time and his ass is out the door. And no fucking gold watch either.
[li]Central European Time (CET) is seven hours in advance of Chicago, so Van Matlocksten is still going.[/li]
[li]Many residents of the Netherlands hibernate from late October until the first tulips bloom in Spring. This is not a true hibernation, per se, as they are known to stumble out for a cold bier or something else at the local cafes, coffee houses and brown houses.[/li]
[li]As many others here have already mentioned, Chicago Boom is fun and the price is right, go for it. I for one, though, would ask you to forego the banana show.[/li]
Relax, you’ll have a good time. And you could try to ask Daffodil, another Dutch Doper, if it’s that important to you to hear it from the Dutch.
Miss the Banana Show? Hell no! Thats like the second reason I’m going there. Does Chicago Boom have a Banana Show? I didn’t expect his family was so forward-thinking.
I always have a good time. Thanks though
Its important that I hear it from Coldfire…I mean come on, he’s got a job to do here doesn’t he? Where will we end up if we constantly let other people pick up his slack?
I’m actually hoping for a little more explaination on what Chicago Boom is like, I mean is it up scale? Expensive food and drink? Dress code? How much time are we going to need to set aside here? Will it be tough to find the joint?
You see, I’m trying to build up a dialogue here, perhaps strengthing the two nations relations and laying the foundation for future trade and cultural sharing! You see, Clog Boy is letting down his countryman. Not to mention Cecil, eradicating ignorance et al.
Psssst… his SDMB pager is right at the top of the board. I’ll make it easy on you, though, and post it riiiiiiiight here so you don’t even have to go searching around for it… Coldfire16@zonnet.nl.
Have fun in A’dam, btw. [sub]bastard. (only because I’m seething with jealousy)[/sub]
[url=“http://www.boomchicago.nl/”]BOOM Chicago is a sketch comedy kind of place, I believe they take some of their inspiration from Second City type comedy. Hopefully they don’t have a “banana show”, this occurs at the Banana Bar. Besides being more than a little offputting, when I was their the inhabitants were skanky beyond belief. Mayhaps I was not drunk enough, but I never wish to be that drunk. Many tourists to Amsterdam take in a live sex show of some sort, somewhere, but trust me, give the Banana Bar a miss.
I was in Amsterdam twice, before I knew anything about this Board, once with my family, once with a colleague. We kind of wandered around aimlessly and found what we found. I agree with you that it would be enlightening to get Coldie’s or another Dutch person’s perspective. IIRC BOOM Chicago sponsor one of the canal boat tours which is supposed to be pretty good, you might wish to check that out.
Check the web link. It should be relatively easy to find.
As a final piece of advice, if I were looking for help from someone in a foreign town, I would generously offer to treat them to a meal or at least a few drinks in exchange for their advice and counsel. And while we are on the topic of beer, my personal preference is to drink from the 0,2 liter versus 0,5 liter glasses. The service was always brisk and that way the beer stays cool and fresh, plus there is no price break on the larger size. It was just invented for hard drinking tourists.
Still need info on Boom Chicago, a show I never visited, I might add?
Sorry for missing this so long, but Shayna got it right: I was still recovering from my trip to the US. And I was very busy at work. And I had to feed the server hamsters this week. So there.
