Collaboration Software

I’m interested in an online project collaboration program, a free one. So far, I’ve found Open Workbench, but that’s a LAN based application. Got any recommendations?

What kind of project?

One of Google’s services (writely) allows you to share files with other people, but you know, “writing a book”, “building a bridge” and “writing the next piece of megasupersoftware” are somewhat different projects with very different requirements.

If the project is a one-timer of < 2 months duration, the trial version of Groove http://www.groove.net/downloads/groove/download-preview.cfm works well for serverless file & discussion sharing. It has zero project “management” functionality, but you can create lists for things to do, etc., in addition to just uploading & syncing a project plan document from typical project planning software.

Since Groove got bought by Microsoft you can also get a trial version of the new MS-branded 2007 version from http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/grooveserver/FX101674161033.aspx.

We use both & they’re pretty good for what they’re for.

Actually, it’ll be a number of projects, some of which are recurring on an annual basis. I’m Activities Committee Chairman at my local church ward. As this is Korea (“the most wired country”), there’s a lot of interest among the members in doing the planning online.

p.s. Although I’ve been using yourorganiser.com for a few years, it doesn’t have the “bells and whistles” that I’m looking for.

Another bonus would be if I can get the thing to display in Korean.

Monty, just to clarify: Do you want software that is already hosted on a server (e.g. yourorganiser.com or Yahoo! Groups) or are you interested in running the software on your own server?

CaveMike,

I’m looking for one that’s already on a server. And I’m interested in it being free.

Well, I just found this list. Any opinions on the programs mentioned there?
