Apparently a government vehicle was too large for the road, and caused a collapse of an overpass on the 805, according to CNN.
Is anyone hurt?
CNN Pipeline says a sign fell down. Slow connection. Looking for more details now.
L.A. Times:
Full story here.
A sign that spanned several freeway lanes collapsed on a couple of cars today when a garbage truck slammed into it, bringing traffic to a halt, transportation officials said.
There were reports of injuries.
The garbage truck was heading north on Interstate 805 about 7:30 a.m. when it barreled into the overhead sign, said Steve Saville, a spokesman with the California Department of Transportation.
The garbage truck had been traveling with its dumper in the up position, according to witnesses, Saville said.
Yep, traffic was a bear this morning, and I don’t even take that freeway.
Yeah, my husband is still trying to get into work and he left before 8 and wasn’t anywhere near the area of the freeway where it happened. At one point they made everyone turn around and head the other way on an on-ramp.

The above has a picture of the sign in question and more info than the la times blurb. I generally take the north bound five to work in UTC. Traffic was not heavy on it.
Jebus. I thought LA drivers were bad.
Thankfully I get on the freeway one exit to the NORTH of that (not to mention I left about 10 minutes before it happened) so I didn’t get caught in it.
I do, however, have to take it southbound tonight. I hope they can get everything cleared off soon. There’s been talk of opening the southbound lane(s) for a bit to northbound traffic. That should make the drive home a treat.
