Hearing about someone’s carport collapsing due to the excessive weight of the extreme snows this week, I have to wonder… Are the handymen who have the carpentry skills to build decks and carports really licensed to do so? Do their designs have to be approved by a P.E. (professional engineer)? - Jinx
Some jurisdictions may require that any work be approved by either an architect or P.E… Others may just require that the work be done according to code. Building codes will (or should) include the span tables and bracing requirements outlining how a carport should be build to withstand the snow load.
