About the moving clause in the contract, it was something along the lines of 50 miles from any of their facilities, and no, I did not confuse that with simply moving 50 miles from my original address. I moved to a very remote and rural part of Eastern NC that had no gyms of any description at that time, just city-owned rec centers. The manager of the gym I belonged to in Phoenix did verify that I would be living too far from any of the chain’s facilities to remain a member and assured me that all I would need to get out of the contract was some proof of my new address in rural NC, which I gave. And as I mentioned, both the contract and the associated paperwork regarding proof of new residence were tossed out by a family member in the summer of 1998 when I was away living overseas. We foolishly thought this matter was behind us at that time.
Hope this helps!
