College Football 2020: We Doing This Or What?

UMass cancels football.

ESPN is reporting that the Big 10 has decided to cancel football this fall. Apparently, they are considering trying to play in the fall.

Found an online story at CNN

Guessing you meant trying to play a season in the spring.

TMZ is reporting that Pac-12 has not officially announced it, but sources say that the announcement is pending.

Yes, I fumbled that one.

That’s ok, I was here to recover for the team.

And it’s official, the Pac-12 has postponed the season.

The SEC and the ACC are basically punting, for now. Apparently the Big 12 are meeting tonight…

I’m a little surprised that the ACC is holding onto the football season so tightly. Aside of Clemson (and I guess now Notre Dame), which ACC teams really have that much to gain by playing the season, particularly if there’s no post-season?

Florida state? Yes, I’m an alum and yes they have sucked. But, they’re still a huge school with a national fan base and sell tons of merchandise. And I’m sure they want the Taggert stench gone ASAP

Oh, and I’m sure the ACC network has something to do with it.

All of them, of course.

The Big 12 says they are going to play football this fall.. Set to start on September 26 for a 10 game season.

“I see the bad moon a-rising
I see trouble on the way
I see earthquakes and lightnin’
I see bad times today…”

Liberty University plays in the FBS as an independent; they are scheduled to play three ACC teams (Syracuse, NC State, and Virginia Tech) in non-conference games this season.

Liberty’s football coach, Hugh Freeze, was quoted on Friday as saying that there had been zero positive tests for COVID in his program for the past three weeks. However, it appears that they have also performed zero tests for the past two weeks – apparently, the team has decided that, since no one on the team has been showing any symptoms of COVID, there’s no reason to conduct any tests.

The ACC, particularly the three schools which are supposed to play Liberty this season, are not happy about this.

Who said anything about “no post-season”? Well, in FBS, anyway.

I looked up the ACC schedule today, to see who Carolina has. There’s a league championship listed for the last game. So, no bowls, but a postseason of sorts.

And, of course, if things are less severe by December, bowl games can always be added

The SEC and Big 12 also have their conference championship games still scheduled. The only changes are, there will be a bye week before the game, and at least one of the three will hold it at one of the two schools’ home fields rather than at a neutral site.

Will the SEC force Wofford and The Citadel to play their annual cupcake games?

Nope. No non-con games at all. Which means no easy wins, and no big paycheck for Wofford or The Citadel.

Anyone notice the huge number of Covid 19 cases universities are reporting among their student bodies, often hundreds–and it is just the start of the academic year:

In comparison it is ridiculous to worry about the relatively small number of possible cases among football players playing football–who will be as likely to get it out socializing as playing football.
