Considering their recent history, I’m surprise they didn’t do something negative about Oregon.
The Oregon state flag has yellow on it at least.
I don’t believe there are any bananas on the flag, unless they’re in that covered wagon.
Oops, didn’t notice that. Here you go: A Day at the Zoo! 11/9/24 Ohio State vs. Purdue
The NCAA should add a rule that anyone who plants their flag on the opponent’s turf is suspended for the next game. This is just too provocative an act to allow. Also, the officials should remain on the field as long as there are players from both teams present and hand out penalties as warranted until at least one of the teams is completely off the field.
Bull. It happens all the time without incident.
The officials are there to officiate the game. When the game is over, they leave. They’re not babysitters. There are other authorities that take over responsibility.
Yep. You Lose, You Bruise. Suck it up and beat them next year. Then do it to them. It’s just turf.
It’s part of the game. What makes it more fun than Pro Football. Beat your rival? Eh, same paycheck. Who gives a fuck?
Yup, this is a case of Ohio State’s band fucking around and finding out. Are they trying to steal Cal’s title as the douchebags of the marching band circuit?
WHAT?!? I think you are thinking of Stanfurd.
Dammit - you’re right.
I was gonna say, it was Stanford involved in “The Play”.
It’s more like “Stanford was involved in making fun of nuns, the Irish potato famine, and has been involved in sexual hazing of its members.”
This one time, at band camp…
Alabama pulls the same shit every year and gets away with it. Get three losses in the season? No problem, beat the snot out of a creampuff the week before Auburn and get back into the playoff. I’d prefer a 16 team field where EVERY conference gets their champion in and the remaining spots are awarded on merit.
I have every confidence that the selection committee will objectively evaluate each potential playoff team and choose the 12 teams whose participation will – in their respected, learned opinion – generate the most money.
Oh you wonderfully cynical bastard.
Ah…excuse me…I was just checking in to see if we were still talking about Deion Sanders, but apparently not (I thought Colorado doing vastly better this season would’ve generated some noise), and I happened upon the latest OSU/Michigan flap.
So, humble question: Is it now acceptable to show absolutely horrible sportsmanship and do something incredibly insulting and provocative provided that: 1. You won the game (I heard Stephen A Smith argue this), 2. “Well, they did it to us!”,
or 3. “Well, this other college does it and no one says anything!”
If you happen to have a higher score at the end or can point fingers, you can be as much of a colossal jerk as you want? Is this really where we’re at? Because the way I was raised, using excuses like those was considered infantile and only made you look even worse, and I’d like to think that concepts like “justice for all” and “being the better man” aren’t that old-fashioned. If something like this ever happens at UH Manoa, I guarantee that there will be Hell to pay. And the NCAA should completely turn a blind eye to it in the name of “fun”?
Seriously, insult the other team on their field after the game and you expect no reprisals whatsoever? The hell?
You do not want to know how many people on Facebook have answered this question, “Yes, and pretty much solely because of #1. If you don’t like it, then don’t lose the game.”
The NCAA can’t really do anything about it. It’s not allowed to fine the schools unless the bylaws get changed, and even then, it can only fine the school, not the team, so the entire athletic department pays for it, and, for the most part because of Title IX, half of the money comes from women’s sports (and I have a feeling the other half would come from the men’s sports besides football and basketball). You can’t call unsportsmanlike conduct penalties after the game is over.
Probably the one thing they can, and should, do is, allow the officials to “eject” players for fighting after the game is over, the way they can in baseball and basketball; they would have to sit out the first half of their next game.
I know this will never ever ever happen, but after watching the Army/Tulane game last night, I found myself wishing that Army would be part of the playoffs. They have a record of 12-1 and easily defeated the Green Wave 35-14. Plus, they almost exclusively run the ball, utilizing a tailback and two wings, and one of those 3 usually goes in motion before the snap. It’s a tough attack to defend. Last night they had 338 yards rushing and only passed the ball twice, completing both for a total of 17 yards.
Their problem is that they have few quality wins; the next-best team in the AAC is 10-2 Memphis, who Army did not play this year. And Army’s only loss was a 49-14 thumping by Notre Dame, which probably knocked them out of any playoff contention. Army does play 8-3 Navy next Saturday, but the CFP will be settled by then.
Win or Lose Ettiene is gonna spend his career known as a risky ball handler after those plays
I might be only one here. But I would love to see the playoff end up with the seeding that exists currently. That traditional SEC stalwart Texas, vs the Big10 flagship Oregon.
