Art You have 19 teams in the Big 10, and 13 of them suck at football. How is this an improvement? Who wants to watch Big Blue beat the crap out of nobody teams all year long? Why do you think this would improve college football?
Odd, my post was eaten.
Anyway, I said something along the lines that geographical proximity, in this age of aireoplanes and the picture box, should not be the number 1 determinant of a conference’s makeup - parity should. Aside from your (Art’s) Big 12, WAC and maybe the SEC, there is zero parity. Eric’s conferences couldn’t hit parity if they fell out of a boat in Parity Lake.
If you want to take parity and smack it around a bit to whip it into shape, take the current Big East, SEC and ACC as an example. Take Temple and Rutgers out of the BE, Kentucky, Vandy and Arkansas out of the SEC, North Carolina, Duke and Wake Forest out of the ACC, and put them in a nice new conference all by themselves. Maybe through UConn and Navy in there to make a nice conference full of crappy football teams, and rearrange what you got left into two other conferences of 12 each (is that right?). Parity!
I sort of like how college football is byzantine in nature, why balance things out? Half the fun is complaining about this stupid BCS thing or the moronic way the Big 10 is overrated etc.
As if Big Blue did not dominate the Big Ten.
Notre Dame and Ohio State are still in their conference.
I forgot Nebraska in the Big XII…either I cut it out or eric did.
I just made this list out of what he had put up there. Later I will put up 6 true conferences.

Artermis: We both forgot about the Cornhuskers! Woops!
Here is my list. I cut out a lot of the crappy DI programs.
I know some of you are going to say well this conference is stronger than this one BUTas with every year…you will have some schools that suprise (Notre Dame, Iowa, NC St., Bowling Green) and some schools that do not live up to the hype (Florida St., Florida, Tennessee, Michigan).
Also as with every conference you will have your whipping boys that no matter what do not get it. You need those schools. Because like Maryland proved last year…everyone loves an underdog.
I did base mine on geographic for a couple reasons.
Rivalries- most of them are in the same state or same geographic region. So it makes sense to keep them in a group.
Secondly is cost. You can say with airplanes it makes getting around the country easier but remember these are college kids and they do not need to be from W. Virginia going to Hawaii or Cal 2 and 3 times a year because you thought it would be better…
This is not perfect and I do not claim to be all knowing of football BUT it is my opinion…

Comments: 1.Your BE is huge! 2.Why Utah, no Utah St.? Drop Utah or elevate State, I surmise you’d do the former. 3.Where’s Cal in the Pac-10? 4.I’d put LSU and Tulane in the SEC, and move the alphabet soups to the Big 12 myself.
By “alphabet soup” I’m limiting it to:SMU, TCU, and UTEP.
Air Force only worthy service academy? Eliminates Commander-in-Chief trophy. (Used to mean something, now symbolic, but I still like it.)
Cal was a mistake. They belong in the PAC 10.
No Utah St. Do you know what conference they are in by any chance?
I left out a ton of DI programs. If I left them out…I felt they were unworthy to be in one of these conferences and would just water down some conferences even more.
Navy and Army…care to guess how many games combined they have won in the last 10 years? I would be willing to bet not as many as Air Force by itself. Also when was the last time AF lost the CIC trophy. Why are the marine and coast guard schools left out? I am not saying that they could not have that still if they want. Hell you get 12 to 14 games…they could schedule them if they really wanted to.
Yeah I could put the alphabet gang where you said but then I have to bring back some of your DI crap schools who belong in DI-AA. I needed to put someonei n the Big XII after I got rid of some and they just fit.

Oh I know what conference utah st. is in. I just want to see if you know of which off hand.

Utah St. is Independent, I hear they plan to join the Sun Belt.
