College Student walking to class hit by lightning

First day of class and this happened. :scream: It’s amazing she wasn’t badly injured. She’s planning to return for classes next week.

That’s one tough woman.

Wow! She is one lucky lady.

Any talk of superpowers or have they kept that quiet?

OK Zeus. I’ll change majors. Jeez!

Noting like what this lady had happen but I want to share this.

I pulled my brothers sailboat out of the water. And went around to the back of it to climb aboard using the metal ladder.

Bang! I found myself on the ground. The boat had collected a shit ton of static electricity and had not grounded/discharged it.

Sometimes it seems the world is out to get us.

I didn’t know static electricity built up that high.

I hated the carpet at my parents. I got zapped every time I walked across the room and touched something.

I’ve seen dead cattle that got hit by lightning. Scary.

Glad to hear she’s ok.

Also nothing like what the young woman experienced, but I’ll share my lightning story.

I was a kid, maybe 10, looking out my bedroom window at a thunderstorm. A cast-iron Model-T piggy bank was on my window sill, and I was resting my chin on it while watching the storm.

Suddenly a flash of lightning stuck really close- it seemed like in the middle of our street, The thunder boom was instantaneous with the lightning.

At the same time I felt a mild electric shock from the metal bank to my chin. It was a freaky experience.

Lightning is static electricity.

She’s going back to classes? Some people just can’t take a hint.

Oohh I’ve had a similar experience with static doing upholstery work on boats. Not strong enough to knock me around but enough to elicit a loud curse. People, i think, sorta dismiss static as harmless but it really isn’t.

I’d either change from or to a Philosophy or theology major.

Another lightning strike 3 weeks ago in Washington, DC:

And the survivor talks about the experience:

Maybe she can get a discount on one. You know, a lower charge.

Beware. Zeus doles out pun-ishment…

I’d be careful about conducting debate on current events which might amp-lify the potential of Zeus’ wrath.

I am shocked, SHOCKED, at the paganism of this thread!

So was she.

I find it lacks Thor-oughness.

Pro tip - if you’re pouring waste solvent into a 55 gallon drum, be sure that the drum and the funnel, if it’s metal, are grounded by cable to an actual grounding rod. Also, when opening or closing a drum of solvent, use a brass bung tool.
