My wife is a graduate of SUNY Binghamton (SUNY–state university of NY), now more grandly named Binghamton University.
At appropriate times, usually in her presence, when the school is mentioned I feel it incumbent upon me to add “…where the Cornell guys used to go to [del]get laid[/del]pick up girls.” Sometimes I modify it with “easy girls” or “easy Jewish girls” as the mood strikes.
Background query 1: I’m pretty sure I read something like that somewhere; I’m fairly certain because I really have no idea where the two schools are, except upstate somewhere in the same neck of the woods. She says she never heard of it. Maybe it was SUNY Stonybrook and some other school. Any help?
OP topic: This morning, when yet again I sprang it on my wife, she said that in Binghamton legend and lore a statue of Pegasus on the campus will fly away if a virgin ever graduates. (:dubious: Why after umpteen years do I only hear this now…?)
She then told me at Cornell they said that the same event would be marked by a statue of Ezra Cornell walking over to shake hands with a statue of somebody or other.
“Ha!,” said I, noting that the two schools are linked at least here in their respective culture, “so it [some version of the query 1 statement] must be true!” [Note the two exclamation points.]
Is/Has anything something similar about miraculous events when a virgin graduates been set up in other colleges? It sounds like it would be a thing. (I didn’t go to a normal college, so these things interest me perhaps more than otherwise.)
