Color Blind Society="Pretend we're all White"

You’re presenting your opinion as if it were a fact. On what authority are you basing this outrageous claims? How can you say this when there are racial-based hate crimes, prejudices toward people of different color?

There may not be slavery in the US anymore, but to jump to conclusion that skin color doesn’t play any parts in US society today is unbelivably naive.

by Susanann:

This “welcome them with open arms” bit is making me laugh. I’ll grant that at, say, a gun control rally, whites and blacks who share the same politics will stand shoulder to shoulder, as comrades and all that. But it’s what happens outside the rally that is the most significant. If the comraderie that Mr. White and Mr. Black share inside a convention hall suddenly evaporates in the office, or at the department store, or a resturant, then something tells me something more than politics is in the mix. If Mr. White and Mr. Black get along fine on a gun-control message board, but things suddenly become very awkward between them when they meet in real life, that’s suggests that race plays a major role in how we interact with each other.

You’re implying that liberal whites are not racist, but that’s wrong. You can still support welfare, but think whites are “better” than blacks. You can still be anti-death penalty and think that any group of 3 or more black kids is automatically a crack hustling street gang. And what about Asians and Latinos? Do you believe they are immune to racism? It’s not always just about whites and blacks.

I don’t understand that, either. That kind of thinking is bigotted regardless of if it has anything to do with race.

That’s what the television would have you believe. I had the opportunity last year to study the issue of environmental justice. Enlightening experience.

Here’s a rhetorical question for all of these assertions: cite?

Ah yes, because it is a much better thing for “their” sons and daughters to be killed in a senseless war than for “our” kids. Sentiments such as these make me so glad to be living in a color blind society.

Interesting comment. Please elaborate.

What happens with the other 50% of Americans that didnt vote in the last elections ? High abstention means that almost half of america cant be “defined” as left pinkos or right ragers !

Off topic, but a few days ago I posted a response, I think it would have been the third or fourth post. But I look today, and, for some reason my post never made it. This is frustrating. Anyway, I guess I’ll look over other peoples responses and see if anybody else made the same points I tried to make, and if not, then repost my message.

BBC presents something similar…

  • Joel… I hate it when that happens too… :frowning:

Wouldn’t it be “Pretend we’re all Black” because the absence of all color is black? At least I think it is.

Just a little humour.
