Color changing candles, how???

My wife recently picked up these from QVC as stocking stuffers. They feel like and presumably work like normal wax candles. No batteries are ever inserted and I assume they are of course safe for burning.

Now the reason why I bring this up is that as we held them, and in fact while they were still in the box, the snowmen were changing colors inside their bodies! They would rotate from purple to green to red and then repeat. I tried shaking one and heard no distinguishable liquid nor did I hear any type of movement coming from within. In fact, we’ve had them for a couple of weeks now and they are changing colors not fine (so not a battery I’d think).

That said, HOW are these candles constantly changing color so consistently?

In all probability they are battery-powered LEDs inside. I’ve recently come across colour-shifting ornaments sold through Hallmark that operate the same way – small button-cell batteries that power multicoloured LEDs that gradually shift from one colour to the next inside the ornaments. (The ornaments themselves have die-cut snowflake-shaped openings so it’s easy to see them, but there are similar items that are enclosed in frosted glass or plastic that do the same thing)
