Can one wear a yellow shirt with a flamingo dinner jacket? I am color coordination challenged.
Thanks

Is one Elton John?
I’m booked on a 12 day cruise that has 3 “formal nights”. I can buy a “sunset coral” Dinner Jacket. I have a yellow tuxedo shirt. I wish not to be thrown overboard becaus of a possible color clash.
It sounds like those two colors would actually go together quite well. If you think you have the personal style to pull off colored formal wear, I say go for it. By the way, what color pants complete this outfit? What about the tie? Will you feel comfortable wearing the same distinctive jacket to all three formal nights?
I say NO to a Coral Dinner Jacket (Sounds like a Pink/Orange) and NO Yellow Tuxedo Shirt.
When is this cruise?
I don’t know if you are Money Challenged, but and it’s not as much as you might think.
Go spend your money on a complete Classis Black Tuxedo, that is Black Jacket (Single or Double Breasted, whatever makes you look good and you like) and Black Pants. Buy White Tuxedo Shirts, A couple of Black Bow Ties (doesn’t have to be the kind you have to tie) to get different looks out of it, get coordinating vests to go underneath, or matching Cumberbund/Bowtie Combinations.
You will get more out of a Classic Tux.
Go get fitted at maybe Men’s Warehouse or some such store (check your Yellow Pages, under Men’s Clothing Stores), I think they sell Tuxedo’s and Accessories, there is nothing that looks worse than a Tuxedo that does not fit properly.
I worked at a Wedding Shop, fitting Men for their Tux’s and Women for Wedding/Formal Gowns.
I don’t think formal night on a cruise truly means formal. Last cruise I was on (granted about 8 years ago), formal meant suit and tie for me and a nice dress for my SO. Would you really expect to buy a formal tux. for 3 nights on a cruise?
A yellow shirt and a coral jacket will make you look like a Tequila Sunrise or David Arquette. Now, this is not necessarily a bad thing if you have the moxy to pull it off, but h. sapiens has a point - Do you want to wear the same distinctive color combination 3 times? You might be more comfortable taking along a nice suit or a neutral-colored, dressy sports coat.
Have fun!
I think that the two colours might be a little much to try. Just stick to black, white and a third colour, and you’ll be fine.
And don’t worry 'bout getting banned for clashing, if they cared about style, half the people on board those things’d get tossed.
It depends a lot on your skintone. If you’re very pale, it could wash you out. I also agree that how you carry yourself makes a lot of difference. People who exude self-confidence and friendliness can get away with most anything.
This thread is a joke, right? Are you going to wear a teal tie with that ensemble?
OK. Just in case the OP was serious, please, for the love of Pete (I’m not even sure who Pete is but, unless he’s an extra for Miami Vice, he would veto the coral dinner jacket/yellow shirt combo, too) buy or rent a tux!
