Try this test on the PBS site for Race - The Power of an Illusion. I’m sure you will do better than I did at identifying grooups by appearance. Very good site.
Yes, race is a historical construct, although within its original bounds is has some validity (which is to say, certain groups of people are somewhat more closely related to each other). Although of course, ethicism and racism were present early on, the historians who developed the idea were not per se particularly racist.
Wow, I did a lot worse at that than I thought going in. The trickiest part for me was deciding who belongs to Latino/Hispanic category. Some people’s self-identification flies in the face of what others tend to think.
