I’d have more sympathy if I thought you had a clue about anything, Cad. You’re low on the radar screen but IIRC most of your posts are stupid and/or irritating. Here’s one:
This asinine post was in Elections, not even the Pit. “Dems think killing a lot of people isn’t so bad.” What a snide asshole liar you are.
IIRC, you take Trump’s side on almost every issue. Reap what you fuckin’ sow, dude!
Rereading my post, I see that it might almost seem rude. I don’t care. Hearing a Trumpist complain that the voters reject a tax hike shows such complete lack of self-awareness that only contempt is warranted. @ Saint Cad: There’s no way you’d have supported the tax if you weren’t already “on that public dole” hoping to benefit from that revenue.
And yes, my shrill post will just reinforce the twisted view Cad has about rational thinkers. I can hardly care about that — it’s not like there’s even the most remote chance that Cad could learn anything new, or become a rational thinker himself.
This post is so delicious! So, SC, how about that accusation? Will you let him call you a liberal?
Flyer, not to worry – he’s on your side for issues that don’t affect him personally. Didn’t Paul Ryan reverse course on something because he personally knew someone affected by some conservative policy, too? Cheney and his lesbian daughter as well. It seems that conservatives literally can’t think about what life would be like in someone else’s shoes. They have to experience hardship themselves or know someone personally. Total lack of empathy.
SC, did you vote for Johnson because you’re a libertarian? Because the idea of a libertarian public school teacher is hilarious!
Well, you connected some dots and appeared to apply mathematical reasoning and the concept of cause and effect to public policy. That is Highly suspicious :dubious:
On statewide issues, Coloradans voted in a Democratic Governor along with a full slate Democratic state officials, both legislative branches controlled by the Democratic party; but for statewide funding initiatives for highways and schools funded through debt and taxes, all were voted down. The only conclusion I can come to, is that the Democratic wave that occurred in Colorado extended to Democratic officials, but don’t touch their wallets!
Truth has been spoken. The fact is that conservatives love to dish it out on others, but the moment conservatives get a little taste of adversity, the crumble to the floor like shattered porcelain statues.
True story. The Missus (who is notably left of Gandhi) was having a civil discussion with a pro-Trump fellow (Bob) recently. Bob’s neighbor is an undocumented Mexican national (Jose). Jose works labor jobs for cash, and sends money back home to the wife & kids. Bob and Jose get along great as rural neighbors. Jose doesn’t own/drive a car because no license & uninsurable, so Bob drives him around when necessary. Jose pays him back in cash and the occasional jug of moonshine, which he’s apparently quite skilled at making. So when the conversation came 'round to immigration, Bob laid out the very sensible line of “Welcome, but come here legally.” The Missus asked him a few questions: Jose chooses to live apart from his family, in danger of arrest & deportation, and surely he misses them. Why do you think he does that? Bob: Huh, I guess I don’t know. Maybe I’ll ask him. Her: Isn’t moonshine at least as illegal as being an undocumented Mexican? Bob: It’s not like he’s making commercial quantities, it’s just for his personal use and the occasional gift. That’s nobody’s business, certainly no DC jackass has the right to meddle in that. Her: if illegals should be deported (as he’d said earlier), how would that affect the rest of the country? How would that affect you personally? Bob: Aw, they wouldn’t come for Jose. Her: Wouldn’t they?
Bob is a good guy, he just adopted an outwardly sensible conservative principle without putting much thought into how that actually looks in the real world. As noted, Bob and Jose are country boys–good hearts, loads of tradition, and a sense that individuals should be free to live honorably and unrestricted. And at least in Bob’s case, that simple “What if” line of thought had simply failed to work its way into his mind until she put it there. Now, Bob’s not about to become a Bernie Bro, but at least he’s rethinking his position on immigration enforcement.
My point is, RitterSport’s generalization is perhaps an uncharitable wording of the truth. It’s not that Conservatives are naturally unempathetic, necessarily. It’s that we all have a lot to think about, and we can’t all think about everything at the same time or in the same order, and so we all live in different places with respect to how we’d like the world to be, and what our role in the world ought to be. And sometimes a destructive mind simply doesn’t know it is destructive because it hasn’t totally unpacked and examined a set of thoughts because they have been busy unpacking and examining a different set.[/spoiler]
Good point. The OP tried to claim that governments collect taxes and use the money to pay for public services, and if they don’t pay for public services, the public doesn’t get them. Ha ha! What a maroon!
And yet, at the end of the day, Bob voted for the party that wants to clap Jose in irons and ship him home. He may not be unempathetic, but he’s stupid and he’s culpable, and if Jose gets deported, Bob deserves to get shit for it.
I disagree. I think Bob had a certain set of things on his mind that were important to him during the election that he felt would be better addressed by someone who was not Hillary. To read malice or even apathy into his attitude about things you’ve selected for your personal crusade is not constructive. Because the guy is simply not a dick, he doesn’t want good people harassed, and he is open to hearing other opinions about things he felt he’d already sorted in his mind, and he is willing to consider making important a new (to him) set of ideas. For someone on the fence, possibly in the process of coming over to your side, displaying belligerence and derision is counterproductive. But don’t let me tell you how to be. Fling around all the blame and derision you like. Maybe you can shame someone into thinking about things your way.
