You know those new colorized Obama “half dollars” - the one’s being touted by Montel Williams on primetime informercials? Turns out, the New England Mint is being just a tad bit misleading with these. These coins are nothing but Kennedy half dollars with a sticker placed on top. According to this news broadcast, Kennedy’s indention can actually be seen through the sticker in the proper light.

There’s a lot of fervor and excitement surrounding Obama’s presidency right now, so please look at everything in a skeptical light when purchasing memoribilia. If you’re purchasing items for strictly keepsake value, then fine. Just be aware that these collectible pieces may not pay for your retirement down the line.

I don’t understand the mindset that leads people to do such dishonest, sleazy things for money. Then again, I don’t really understand why anyone would want to buy a coloured commemorative coin, sticker or no sticker. I find stuff like that, frankly, tacky as shit.

I actually got one of these in my drawer at work. I’ve also had several of the painted state quarters in there.

Seriously, though: A sticker placed on Kennedy halves? That’s some numismatic chutzpa in a league with Roman coins bearing the date inscription “50 B.C.”
