Colour of magic on UK TV this easter

The Guards are my favourite books (they just about edge the witches for me), so I am in two minds about whether I would want to see those books done. If they did a bad job, it would just hurt that much more!

Well, it was a riff on the whole “promotion by filling dead men’s shoes” thing, wasn’t it…

I thought it was pretty decent. But like si_blakely, I disliked their version of the Patrician, but since it’s not clear that the Patrician at the time of CoM was Vetinari, I’m not going to complain too much…

I was hoping for Guards Guards too, but it’s actually going to be Going Postal.

Apparently Pratchett has said that it was Vetinari in COM, although possibly at an earlier level of maturity and experience.

The young Vetinari (as portrayed in Night Watch) didn’t need any additional maturity

Si

I recall that that is how I heard their voices in my head when reading the books. Is that not true to the book?*

*Ignoring the fact that what I heard was an American “redneck” style accent rather than a british “bumpkin” style one.

Possibly - they sound standard english in my head though

BTW I’ve learned something today. I watched a bit of the youtube link, and now know that that’s what an English “country bumpkin” sounds like. I’ve heard that kind of accent before, but had no idea it sounds to English ears something like (I guess) Jeff Foxworthy sounds to mine.

Ah OK. I still didn’t like that portrayal though. Though I’m not sure how that fits with the portrayal of th young Vetinari in Night Watch though. But seeing as Pratchett says it is Vetinari, then who am I to argue?

Well it doesn’t stop some fans trying, so if you feel inclined to go right ahead.
