(Columbia) Fucking morons who blame NASA

You can’t even hook up a dvd player. Christ, you never got past that blinking 12:00 on your vcr, did you?

Now that CNN is showing enhanced footage of Columbia’s last launch, you are suddenly an expert on hypersonic gliders.

Shut the fuck up. Sit the fuck down.

THERE HAS NEVER BEEN AND WILL NEVER BE ANY COVERUP. Got that?

This is a bunch of folks that grew up reading Heinlein-- they really do live the dream. I’m sick of hearing some fool who thinks some silly Bruce Willis movie was a documentary declare that he knows how Columbia could have been saved. NASA is not in it for the money-- you fucktard.
Again, let me steal from Henry Rollins:

Shut the fuck up. Sit the fuck down.

Bravo!

Well, except for that Moon landing hoax…

Is it okay to have grown up reading Heinlein and still think that the conspiracy crowd are a (temporary) waste of vital soil nutrients?

2trew: You don’t profess to see it, but SF shows that such people can be of great benefit to society. The masterpiece entitled “Soylent Green” comes to mind.

Heilein was adamandtly mocking conspiracy theorists when he made the comment " Never attribute to malice what can be exaplined by stupidity."

Damn straight, Darth - Anyone blaming NASA for the loss of Columbia and her crew needs a good kick in the teeth. They do everything they can to make space travel safe, but unfortunately, it isn’t always going to work out that way. Danger’s kind of inherent in any activity that involves visiting an environment that is singularly unsuited to human existance (such as, say, outer space).

As a side note, I’ve actually been surprised by how few people have blamed NASA. There have been some, but I’d have expected far more "I told you so"s and second-guessing than we’ve heard so far.

Was NASA to blame for the Challenger?

For the Columbia, it’s obviously too soon to assess blame, but it might come down to being NASA’s fault in the end. Not a conspiracy or anything, just their fault.

Arguably, no. I think the managers at Thiokol that over-ruled their engineers that wanted to stop the launch are the ones that have to go to sleep with that memory every night.

Eh, how does Heinlein figure into conspiracy theories at all? I’ve read a liberal cross-section of his works, fiction and nonfiction, and while he’s a cynical bastard he’s not into conspiracy theories.

Or were you referring to the astronauts? It’s ambiguous in the OP.

I still don’t understand why the couldn’t just land on the moon and let some of the movie crew get them home.

I still don’t understand why they couldn’t just land on the moon and let some of the movie crew get them home.

Well, that and the fact that the only way to get there is to essentially strap a couple thousand tons of TNT to your ass and light it. (admittedly more apros of Challenger, but hey - still dealing with comparable speeds/distances/forces)

It’s not safe. Many things in life aren’t. That’s why astronauts are brave people to do what they do.

Derleth, I was refering to NASA folks as Heinlein fans. I should have been clearer in my OP. Sorry about that.
