Combining Two Things I Love: Shopping & Being Right

Leechboy and I needed new playclothes – specifically jeans. We also needed new jumpers as ours were starting to get holey.

So all this called for – “A Shopping Expedition”

I am blessed with one of the best types of husbands in the world – one that enjoys clothes shopping with me.

Shower kisses on leechboy for this wonderful behaviour

Leechboy has always insisted that the only place he can buy clothes and shoes from is specialty shops for big and tall men – here in Melbourne they are rather aptly named “High & Mighty, Big & Tall”. I tell him that of course he can shop elsewhere and I plan to prove it.

So we head straight for Jeans West as they claim to “fit best”. The cute and helpful sales boy grabs some jeans for me, I try them on they are both perfect first time out.

I then say to him – have you got something for my husband? Leechboy says to him “I’m tall and wide” in this self depreciating voice like “you aren’t going to have anything to fit me I’m abnormal”. But yes they do and not only that but we have to get the regular size because the longs are too long!!!

So now we have matching jeans (sales boy got us the same styles and all, ain’t we a cute couple now).

Onto the jumper shopping; I always get my jumpers from the men’s section at K-Mart ‘cos they cost less and would you believe it they had stuff that fit leechboy too!!

So now I am one smug wife – not only did I get to go clothes shopping (and get exactly what I wanted from the first two stores we went to) but I also got to prove my husband wrong :smiley:

Don’t even get me started on the whole size 16 shoe incident……

Sounds like fun. I thought K-mart was going under.

Violet K-Mart seem to be going strong down her in Australia, but then we don’t have WalMart or the like to compete with them either.

Please, please explain jumpers and why they would be in the men’s section? Jumpers (to me) are either a) cables used to jump start the car when the battery died in below zero temperatures, or b) those one-piece dress thingies I wore when I was a grade school lass. Like overalls, but a dress.

Jumpers=sweatshirts.

Thanks Silentgoldfish. My head was swimming thinking of the possibilities.

Getting down to specifics here are some links for what I think of as jumpers and here and more here.

A sweatshirt is to me something very different, not knitted and mainly worn when working out - more like a tracksuit top without the zipper examples can be seen here, here and here.

I think the main distinction is that a sweatshirt is more casual.

So what is the 'merican term for jumper then?

Damnit, Silentgoldfish I’ve waited years to use this on a fellow american and you ruined it for me. I had to figure this out by snail mail back in the pre-internet days. When am I ever going to have this chance again.

First I wrote what’s a Jumper? Two weeks later I received
Jumpers = cheaters

Then I wrote what’s a cheater? Two weeks later I received
Cheaters = wind cheaters

Then I wrote what’s a wind cheater?

Then the box arrived and it was a sweatshirt. I still have it 12 years later.

This is a jumper (second picture from the top) to me. A dress where you wear another shirt/top underneath. I guess we would call what you call jumpers simply sweaters . More dressy than the sweatshirt.
