I live in Chicago’s northside and have often wondered if I could possibly get charged, taxed and bewildered any more by the electric company. I’ve long thought that electricty is a monolopy and I’ve been stuck with ComEd. That is until I recently saw S&C Electric Company a few blocks away. What is the difference between S&C and ComEd?
At one time in my career I worked for the Westinghouse Electric Co. as the Product Line manager for high voltage load-interrupter and padmount switchgear. S&C Electric was our biggest competitor and built the finest equipment in the industry.
I’m sure they build a lot of gear for Com Ed.
In short: ComEd is an electric utility. They provide electricity to customers.
S&C Electric is a manufacturer of products used in electrical systems.
So, no, you can’t choose to have S&C Electric provide your electric power. That’s not what they do.
