Comic book names in real life?

I always thought the pitcher Rollie Fingers had a superhero name.

I once saw the name Horatio Superman on a memorial commemorating veterans of the Civil and Spanish American Wars.

Of course, there is always this guy…

batman bin suparman

I work with someone whose surname translates as “steel chest”.

This guy: THE ATOM BOMB (WORLD HISTORICAL PROGRAMME) by DAVID KILLINGRAY

He’s a guy called Professor Killingray, who writes about nuclear weapons.

From the world of British politics we have Lord Adonis and Vince Cable. I don’t care what their political leanings are but I feel like they should be ruling over us with an iron fist.

My Nephew - Zak Steell - always said it sounded superhero or spyish…

Was watching surviving D-Day and a Marine 1st Sargent was interviewed - Cant remember his first name but his surname was Slaughter - Sargent Slaughter - marine corpe

That’s the first name I thought of too.

I once met a South African man with the first name of Wonderboy. His parents must have had high ambitions for him.

I know someone named Daniel Knight, which is a name I’ve always thought sounded like the secret identity of a superhero’s sidekick.

Heh, that’s the guy I was coming in to mention. Really hard to top.

In the same vein, one of the Airborne guys at Ia Drang was Sergeant Savage. Alliterations are always awesome.

Comic-book writer Doug Moench likes to explain that he didn’t yet have a secret identity picked out for his latest cape-and-tights creation, but knew a real-world guy named Marc Spector and obviously couldn’t resist. (For bonus points, Moench hadn’t realized “Marc Spector” was a Jewish name, and so only later filled in the backstory by writing Moon Knight as the son of a somewhat disappointed rabbi.)

We used to have a young neighbor named Kent Clark. He was about 13-14 when I knew him. Very enterprising young man, used to do odd jobs and always helping people out around the neighborhood. We would joke that his name was backward, because he really was a super kid.

In the anti-hero vein, there’s a hockey player named Miroslav Satan (pronounced “Shuh-tan,” I believe).

Greg Killmaster, visual effects artist

I have a friend with the last name “Haight”. He’s a doctor, so now he’s “Doctor Haight”. There’s a supervillain name for you.

You’d reject the name Canaan Banana as too over-the-top if you came across it in a comic book.

From a 2003 article about the Iraq war:

The guy’s name is “Sergeant Max Fightmaster”

There was a basketball player several years ago who was named God Shamgod.

Will Power, Indy Car driver
Michael Stonebreaker, former Notre Dame football player
Dick Trickle, NASCAR driver
