Coming to Ireland July 1-10, anyone want to get together?

My oldest daughter, who’s 7, and I will be coming to Ireland for 10 days. I’ve been a number of times before and this is her second time, though she was under a year her first time.

Our first night, the 1st, we’ll be staying in Dublin at a place called Arlington Hotel Temple Bar. My daughter wanted to see Irish dancing and they seem to have it every night. We will also be there the night of the 9th since we’re flying out the next day.

I have a friend in Claremorris that we’ll be staying with the rest of the time. We will probably do a night or two in Galway, though no plans have been made. I’m sure we’ll be doing the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren and a few other things as well.

I have a pay as you go number, but off the top of my head I don’t know what it is. When I find out I’ll post it. Is there a way to get internet on my phone for the time I’m there, even if I have to pay for a month? The phone I have has two sim card slots and I saw Vodafone has a sim for internet but it also seems you have to have a credit card to pay for it every month.

If anyone’s interested in getting together let me know and we’ll make the time. I know we have a couple of members in and around the Dublin area.

Edward, did you check with the Arlington whether your daughter will be allowed attend the show? I’ve never been in the Arlington, only walked past it but it’s never struck me as an all-ages venue.

You could get a PAYG Tesco Mobile SIM for your phone, they have 2c per mb data charge which isn’t terrible if you aren’t going online all the time. As far as I’m aware you don’t have to sign up to any plan. I’ve bought Tesco Mobiles before and they were very cheap and hassle free.

Shit, no I didn’t contact them, and their web page is acting up, I’ll have to try again later. It doesn’t say anything about an age restriction though. Are there any places in the area that do have dancing most nights that she can get in to if she can’t go to this one?

That’s pretty much exactly what I’m looking for. I really only want it for emails and the like. Not downloading movies and stuff.

My current number seems to be 86 447 5106. I’m going to be getting a Vodafone number as my friend says I should be able to call him for free, at least one of us can, so I’ll probably be switching numbers at some point. Anyone that is interested in getting together can send me a text there, not like I can get them in the States anyway.

I’ll have to check that out but for the law states:

"Children (anyone under the age of 18) are only allowed in licensed premises if they are with a parent or guardian, but this provision carries certain restrictions. For example if accompanied by a parent/guardian, the child may remain on the premises between the hours of 10:30am - 9pm (10pm May to September) (unless the licence holder feels this is injurious to the child’s health, safety and welfare). "

Most places you’ll find dancing of a night will be licensed premises. I see the shows in Arlington start at 7pm so you might be all right, just worth verifying beforehand.

Thanks for the heads up, I just sent them an email. Strange how just last year when I was there, sans my daughter, I remember seeing younger kids listening to music in a pub. This was in the west and outside of a major city so that could have had something to do with it as well.

They may well be laxer about it outside Dublin, as they are with lots of things, but are you sure you weren’t at a session before 9pm? Day time, early evening ones are more common out the west. Some pubs in Dublin won’t allow kids in at any time as a rule but the law is 9pm.

And I’ve already gotten a response back, they say that it’s no problem for us to partake in dinner and the show. She can also watch the show until 9 from the bar area.

Anyone up for joining us at the show then? We’ll be wandering around Dublin too for some of the day at least.

I might actually, I’ve always wanted to do one of those shows. Either way if you fancy meeting up in Dublin earlier in the day I’m sure I’ll probably be around.

I’d love to meet up if you get the chance. And you’re more then welcome to come to the show.

Hearing there’s no problem to watch the show I’m really excited. Two weeks to go.

Well sorry to unduly worry you it just occurred to me it might be an issue!

No problem, better to know now then in two weeks. Would rather have to find a new place to watch dancing now then get there and not be able to. The show is 33 euro I was told. Or sit at the bar for free.

I’ll wave to ye from the bar.
