I was surfing The Awesomer, and saw them post a bit about the Commodore Invictus, but I went to the site, and it is pretty uninformative in parts. I am not a hardware geek =(
I was wondering if someone could wander over and take a look? I am particularly interested in the invictus because of the cute little side touch screen … I love to play EVE online and WOW, any use teamspeak and skype to communicate, but I have found that I need to actually see who is talking by name in teamspeak to learn who the different voices are, which means that I need to run TS on my netbook. I am looking for a cheap desktop for at my moms house so I can stop hauling a laptop back and forth, and was wondering if this computer is as able to run multiple instances of eve as my current HP firebird is. [the firebird can actually run 4 instances of eve without lag for mining, 2 for combat with lots pf pewpewpew going on] I suppose perhaps the phoenix, if it can run 2 monitors would work if the invictus wouldnt?
Technical details are very sketchy - but basically it looks pretty similar to the Asus EEE keyboard - Atom CPU (possibly dual core, but maybe not), NVidia Ion graphics, Wireless HDMI. It isn’t really a gaming PC, though - that Atom processor does not have the real grunt you need for serious games, let alone multiple instances - if your HP Firebird is a Quad Core 2 CPU, the Invictus does not even come close. The Phoenix is capable with the right processor, but the Intel graphics card is not gaming quality.
And this resurrection of the Commodore brand seems to be a bit hit and miss to me - it isn’t innovative, and I would be worried about long-term support. The brand has a habit of sinking.
It really is a shame then .. I adored my original amigas, and was disconsolate that Commodore bought them out and essentially shitcanned them. There is a definite place for inexpensive desktops that are optimized for reasonably idiotproof plug and play that isnt mac or windows.
Sorry, but maybe someone will start a thread about the diety Sol Invictus …
