Of course, what he’s referring to by “just another bug hunt” is hunting down some bugs. Glitches. The fact that the colony stopped transmitting probably means that their transmitter is broken for some reason.

So *that * would be why they sent a platoon of armed Space Marines instead of an electronics technician? Not buyin’ it, sorry.

But there is so much going on thematically in A.I. that it should be fairly clear that it’s advanced mechas, rather than aliens – because aliens don’t fit.

When they’re outside the church, Gigolo Joe explains “The ones who made us are always looking for the ones who made them.” – So when David and Teddy are discovered by beings who are thrilled to find creatures who lived before the ice age wiped human beings out, and who explain that they feel that human beings are the key to the meaning of life, it shouldn’t be too hard to see the parallel.

Perhaps the first use of bug in relation to computers, but the term was use during Thomas Edison’s life to mean an industrial defect. And in any case, it was not she who either found the moth or preserved it; she just loved to tell the story and was always careful to emphasise that she herself had not been present. The whole reason the actual moth in question was kept and noted was that here was a routinely used term happening literally for once. However the incident did coin the term debugging. Cite.

I’ve alread said that the robot explanation is the correct onme and makes sense. But I maintain that it’s still not necessarily obvious. Most moviemakers aren’t that consistent. Even Spielberg.

My theory is that “Velociraptor” is just a way cooler name than “Deinonychus,” not to mention easier to pronounce.

Also it wouldn’t have been quite as terror inspiring to have our heroes stalked by Superchicken.

but I do hope Superchicken appears in the next JP movie.
